Where to eat pie this British Pie Week

The beginning of March will bring British Pie Week, running from 4th – 10th March, so we wanted to share our top pies from top restaurants and chefs, recommending where to eat throughout the week.

We’ve got hearty pies at The Palmerston in Edinburgh, sweet treats at hit Edinburgh bakery Lannan and, for those looking for a slight alternative, Shepherd’s Pie at The Beaumont Hotel’s The Colony Grill Room.

Pies at The Palmerston, Edinburgh

Pies at The Palmerston change regularly and have included a native angus short rib and suet pie and a mutton and bacon pie. They make the perfect sharing dish for a relaxed dinner in Edinburgh’s West End.

The Palmerston champions nose-to-tail cookery and local produce, with Morse and Snowdon working closely with Scottish farmers and producers to bring a sustainable approach to the restaurant, including fruit and vegetables from local farms Phantassie and The Free Company; meat from Butchery at Bowhouse and Kildermorie Estate; and fish from Welch Fishmongers and Stevie Fish.

Kissabel apple pies at Lannan, Edinburgh

Lannan’s kissabel apple pies filled with crème fraîche custard and dusted with cinnamon sugar are an intricate treat for anybody with a sweet tooth.

Lannan, which derives its name from the Scottish Gaelic for ‘house’, offers a weekly-changing menu combining Maher’s signature bakes, from classic viennoiserie to custard slices, yum yums and iced buns, with limited-run creations using local and seasonal produce including lemon meringue tarts, dauphinois pastries and crème brûlée danishes.

The Colony Grill Room – the sophisticated New York-style grill room at Mayfair’s The Beaumont Hotel – is serving a Shepherd’s Pie, served with snow peas fricassée and mint salsa verde.

The Colony favourite is best enjoyed alongside transatlantic-inspired snacks and sides, including Truffled toast with bacon jam and cheddar custard; Tater tots; Chickpea fries with jalapeño ketchup and Buttermilk mash.
