From entertainment costs to extras spent on food and drink, the additional financial pressures of half term can soon add up, as according to data from Equifax, parents across the UK look set to spend £323 on average across the half term break.
Whilst the adverse weather conditions may deter many of us from venturing outdoors, spending time in nature has been proven to have a whole host of benefits for adults and children alike, with research highlighting that children who spent just 60 minutes outside in nature each day had a significant 50% lower risk of mental health issues
And so, with UK families in search of purse friendly ways to keep the kids entertained over half term, a study from Adobe has revealed the most photogenic landscapes to help encourage Brits outdoors this half term that you can visit completely free.
Below are the top UK locations highlighted in the research, with just some of the brilliant free and family friendly ways to make the most of each destination.
1. Scottish Highlands
Famed for its dramatic peaks, stunning mirror-like lochs and sweeping glens, the Highlands boast some of the most striking scenery in the UK.
Free things to do:
- Take a scenic walk around Loch Ness and enjoy panoramic viewpoints – perfect for budding photographer
- Explore the forest trails in Glenmore or along the Caledonian Canal
- Keep your eyes peeled for red deer and other native wildlife in Scotland’s open countryside
- Grab your camera and capture sunrise or sunset over the mountains for postcard-worthy photos
2. Lake District
With its still waters and rugged fells, it’s easy to see why the Lake District remains one of Britain’s most loved natural backdrops, and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
