Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) proudly returns to South Africa by introducing three new exciting additions to the portfolio.

Launching imminently, Small Luxury Hotels is honoured to have two beautiful hotels from The Liz McGrath Collection – The Plettenberg on the coastline of the famous Garden Route, and The Marine – a clifftop retreat on the Hermanus Coast.

The third property joining the Small Luxury Hotels portfolio will be in Cape Town. From locations set above South Africa’s finest bays, to the perfect place to spot Southern Right whales from the comfort of your room, the latest SLH member hotels perfectly fit within the brand’s independently-minded portfolio.

The Plettenberg, Plettenberg Bay, South Africa

37 rooms and villas from ZAR 4106 (£194) including breakfast.

Small Luxury Hotels of the World
Situated on a rocky headland in Plettenberg Bay, along the famous Garden Route, The Plettenberg is the ultimate South African seaside escape, poised above one of country’s finest bays. The five-star hotel boasts some of the most breath-taking views of the Western Cape, where whales and dolphins may be spotted in abundance. The beautifully appointed rooms and villas at The Plettenberg are bright and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows and soft blue and aqua tones that echo its marine setting. Choose from an expansive suite for added space and direct access to the infinity pool, or a private villa with its very own heated pool. Swim in the infinity pool, then dine al fresco on inventive seafood dishes using sustainable and seasonal ingredients. Sundowners may be best enjoyed at the elegant Sandbar or enjoy high tea in the intimate Summer Lounge or out on the terrace with a side of awe-inspiring vistas. While you can relax as much
as you want, the beauty of South Africa’s rugged coastline waits just outside to be explored.

Small Luxury Hotels Insider Tip: Outside of the hotel, stroll down to Lookout Beach, perfect for families with its shallow lagoon, or head to Keurboomstrand for surfing and long, contemplative walks. Local boat trips allow guests to see the magnificent whales and dolphins up close or embrace your inner thrill seeker with a bungee jump or canopy tour.

The Marine, Hermanus, South Africa

40 rooms from ZAR 4680 (£221) including breakfast.

Small Luxury Hotels of the World

Overlooking Walker Bay on the Hermanus coast, in the Western Cape’s Overberg region, this beautiful clifftop boutique hotel is arguably one of South Africa’s most spectacular properties. With stunning views of the ocean and unforgettable sunsets all year round, the hotel also provides an idyllic lookout during whale-watching season. The coastal themed suites pay a nod to its seaside location, and guests may enjoy a choice of dining destinations.

The Pavilion – an elegant space reminiscent of the 1920’s serves as a picturesque breakfast room, and Origins restaurant, offering a fun, relaxed dining setting headed up by Executive chef Tronette Dippenaar, who draws on fresh local produce from the Overberg region.

The Sun Lounge and Bar is the perfect place to relax throughout the day – from a quick coffee in the morning, to High Tea, a glass of bubbly or sundowners. Those looking for added relaxation may visit the Carchele Beauty Spa for an indulgent massage or rejuvenating facial.

SLH Insider Tip: This location is steeped with history too, discover the museums, art galleries and quirky bookshops in nearby Hermanus. The Fernkloof Nature Reserve is ideal for plant enthusiasts, hikers and family picnics, and Grotto Beach is great for young families. Catch a boat from Hermanus to see the whales, seals, dolphins and penguins, or see it all from above with a magnificent flight over the bay.

More information on the third new SLH property in Cape Town will be available soon. Keep updated on
