I Tried Dr. Scholl’s Exfoliating Heel Peel on My Cracked Heels – Honest Review

Dr. Scholl’s Exfoliating Heel Peel Review: Does It Really Work on Cracked Heels?

I’ll start with a disclaimer because I think it’s important.

This isn’t a sponsored post. Dr. Scholl’s didn’t send me the product, they haven’t asked me to review it, and I certainly wasn’t paid to write this article. In fact, I hadn’t even planned on writing about it.

I simply found myself standing in a nail salon, looked down at my feet while having my toes painted and was overcome with a wave of absolute mortification.

How had I let my heels get this bad?

Dry. Thick. Cracked. Embarrassing.

I was convinced everyone in the salon could see them.

The moment my appointment finished, I hot-footed (pardon the pun) to the nearest chemist and bought the first heel treatment I recognised – Dr. Scholl’s Exfoliating Heel Peel. There was no research involved, no comparison shopping and certainly no grand plan for a review. It was simply a brand I’d heard of, and I wanted to do something – anything – about the state of my feet.

The only reason I’m writing this article is because the results genuinely impressed me, and if it helps someone else avoid the foot pain or embarrassment I’ve experienced, then it’s worth sharing.

Why Were My Heels So Bad?

I have very high insteps. My feet are so arched they almost look curved.

While that’s not an excuse for neglecting them, it does mean I regularly suffer from pain in the balls of my feet and a build-up of hard skin. Add years of walking barefoot around the house, spending summers in sandals and generally paying far more attention to my face than my feet, and the result was these frankly vile cracked heels.

The reality is, cracked heels are incredibly common.

Some of the most common causes include:

  • Naturally dry skin (your heels have very few oil glands)
  • Standing for long periods
  • Walking barefoot around the house
  • Wearing open-backed sandals and flip-flops
  • Pressure from body weight
  • Ageing skin, which loses moisture and elasticity
  • Foot mechanics, including high arches like mine
  • Simply forgetting to moisturise your feet

In my case, it was probably all of the above.

How Does the Heel Peel Work?

The treatment itself couldn’t really be simpler.

Inside the packet is a serum-soaked exfoliating pad that sits directly over your heel. A soft fabric sling wraps around your foot to hold everything securely in place, leaving your toes and the rest of your foot free.

I secured the pads around both heels and left them on for the recommended hour.

The treatment felt pleasantly cool rather than uncomfortable. There was no stinging, burning or irritation – just the feeling of damp pads sitting against my heels while the ingredients got to work.

Unlike using a foot file or pumice stone, this isn’t about scraping hard skin away immediately.

Instead, the formula relies on a blend of exfoliating acids, including lactic acid, glycolic acid and salicylic acid, alongside urea and moisturising ingredients such as glycerin, to gradually break down the dead skin over the following days. Rather than forcing the skin off, it encourages it to shed naturally while softening stubborn calluses.

My Results

I’ll be honest…

Nothing dramatic happened straight away.

When I removed the heel pads after an hour, my heels felt noticeably softer and much more hydrated, but visually they looked fairly similar. If you’re expecting years of hard skin to disappear in a single treatment, you’ll probably be disappointed.

This is very much a product that rewards patience.

Over the following days, I began to notice genuine improvements. The thick hard skin softened, the deep cracks became less pronounced and, perhaps most importantly, the discomfort I often experience under my feet began to ease.

Now, I do want to be completely transparent.

My heels were in an exceptionally poor state before I started. The photographs in this article show exactly how bad they had become, and I make no apologies for sharing them. If I’m reviewing a product, I think readers deserve to see the reality rather than carefully cropped marketing images.

Because my heels were so badly cracked, I didn’t stop after one treatment.

I completed three heel peel treatments, gently used a foot file to remove the loosened hard skin between treatments and applied a rich foot cream overnight to maximise the results.

Did the peel do all the work? Probably not.

But did it provide the breakthrough that allowed me to finally get on top of years of neglected hard skin?

Absolutely.

Would I Recommend It?

Yes.

Not because it’s a miracle product that transforms your feet overnight, because it doesn’t.

Not because someone paid me to say so, because nobody did.

And certainly not because I set out intending to review it.

I’d recommend it because it worked.

If your heels are only mildly dry, I suspect you’ll see excellent results from a single treatment. If, like me, your heels have been neglected for far too long, you may need a little more patience, a couple of additional treatments and a good overnight moisturiser.

The important thing is that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

For the first time in a long time, I don’t feel embarrassed by my feet.

Even better, they’re noticeably more comfortable too.

Sometimes the best beauty products aren’t the glamorous ones. Sometimes they’re the ones that quietly solve a problem you’ve been too embarrassed to admit you had.

This is one of them.
