Just under half (47%) of British parents need a good WiFi connection when on holiday to be able to relax, according to new research from online travel agent loveholidays

Children also place importance on devices while on holiday, with half (49%) claiming their iPad or tablet is the most important item to pack when going abroad.

This comes as loveholidays reports a 62% increase in customers using the ‘WiFi filter’ when searching for a hotel on its website in 2023 compared to the previous year.

Commissioned via Censuswide, the poll of 2,000 parents and 2,000 children aged six to 10 also revealed three quarters (74%) of parents encounter feelings of anxiety, worry or nervousness before embarking on a family holiday.

To counter these feelings, three in five (60%) parents say it is essential their hotel offers plenty of child-friendly food options, while over half (57%) claim ample on-site entertainment to keep the kids busy is a must.

Meanwhile, more than half of children (54%) think having a pool or beach nearby is essential for a good holiday, with two in five (45%) valuing having a waterpark at their hotel most of all.

Commenting on the research, Al Murray, Chief Marketing Officer at loveholidays said: “Holidays are an important time for families to switch off and spend quality time together. Half the battle towards putting the devices down is finding a holiday that meets every family members’ expectations.

The research went on to reveal three in five (61%) parents have returned to a childhood holiday destination when booking a family getaway in the hopes of reliving happy holiday memories.

When asked what they cherished most about their childhood holidays, parents call out their ‘firsts’, such as their first time on a plane, learning to swim or exploring a new place.

A quarter (28%) of children say making friends is their favourite part of a family holiday, while two in five (41%) parents admit to have made long lasting friendships during their childhood getaways.
