It’s a crisp Sunday morning in central London, I’m nursing a slightly foggy head and feel rather fatigued having spent the previous day frog-marching around the city to fit in as many tourist attractions as possible. Today I could do with relaxing and enjoying a very zen Sunday, good job I have a reservation at The Lensbury then!
The Lensbury Hotel and Health Resort, nestled in Teddington, has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1920. Originally founded as a private club for Shell employees, the site has since transformed into a prestigious venue renowned for its elegance and services. During its early years, Lensbury served as a retreat for employees seeking respite and recreation. Its idyllic riverside location offered a perfect escape from the bustling energy of London’s industrial expansion.
Post-World War II, the Lensbury expanded its facilities, enhancing its offerings to include extensive sports and leisure amenities. By the late 20th century, the site had gained a reputation beyond corporate gatherings, attracting tourists and locals alike. Renamed the Lensbury Hotel and Health Resort, it became a hub of hospitality, blending traditional charm with modern amenities.
Today, the Lensbury stands as a testament to evolving luxury, offering an array of fitness facilities, conference spaces, and serene gardens for relaxation.
My friend and I were both feeling rather frazzled after our exertions in the city so it was great to roll into the car park (after a mere 40-minute drive from central London), grab our bags and head inside where we were met with a warm welcome by the reception team.
After a little tour of the facilities (there are a lot!), we headed to our room to freshen up for the afternoon ahead. Our suite was beautifully spacious and well appointed with all the mod cons including the obligatory mini fridge which we immediately raided plumping for a cold glass of fizz and a gooey brownie – Sunday is off to a fabulous start I must say!
The Lensbury has lots on offer when it comes to activities and facilities, so if you are feeling energetic you are certainly in the right place. The state-of-the-art gym, equipped with the latest technology, invites fitness enthusiasts to maintain their routines, while personal trainers are available to provide guidance and motivation.
Besides getting your blood pumping in the gym, you could also dive into the indoor pool for a refreshing swim or get outdoors and discover the numerous water activities available on the river! As usual, I favoured the more sedate activities so my friend and I opted for a river cruise in our very own motor boat – complete with a trip to a riverside hostelry! Can you think of anything more delightful than sipping Champagne whilst floating along a picture postcard part of the Thames? It was wonderful!

After a wonderful afternoon in the spa, we headed for a relaxed dinner, I opted for a naughty gourmet hotdog smothered in thick American mustard and beautifully sweet fried onions and served with a generous portion of fries whilst my guest tucked into fresh fish and chips with a cheeky glass of fizz.
Filling your stay with activities is not the problem at The Lensbury, but trying to fit it all in might be! We were there to relax but you can tailor your perfect break to include as much or as little as you like.
