Fashion lovers looking to refresh their 2026 wardrobes are being urged to take note of the latest expert trend predictions.
Vintage fashion experts at MessinaHembry.com forecast a shift away from the polished, put-together aesthetic that has defined recent years.
A more relaxed style is expected to increase in popularity, with oversized and baggy silhouettes being favoured.
Second-hand and vintage pieces from style capsules such as 90s grunge, indie sleaze, and the boho chic aesthetic are set to take centre stage.
Prints like Burberry’s Nova check made a strong comeback in 2025 and are set to continue throughout 2026.
Nautical prints are another rising trend, tying into the “pirate core” aesthetic, which blends indie influences with boho chic styles.
Trend expert and marketing manager, Hannah Miller, from Messina Hembry said: “From what we’ve seen in 2025, it seems as though the clean aesthetic which has dominated the past few years is coming to an end. In its place, there’s a clear shift towards baggier, more relaxed fits – whether in a softer boho style or the grungy ’90s revival. People are definitely moving away from a polished, put-together look.
“Staple brands that always sell well are Carhartt, Levi’s, Ralph Lauren and of course sportswear brands like Nike, adidas, ASICS. These are staple items bought for both comfort & capsule wardrobes for those with established personal styles. They are also a go-to for people who are only just beginning to explore vintage, as these brands are classic, reliable, and known for producing well-established, good-quality pieces.”
Messina Hembry’s 2026 predictions:
Burberry print
In 2025, Burberry made a big comeback, notably with their signature Nova print. There are so many ways to wear print, from small accessories like scarves and bags to staple items like jeans, tops, and the iconic Burberry trench coat – whether featuring the all-over print or just with the trims on show.
Indie Sleaze
Indie Sleaze was a style that became popular in the early 2000s, characterised by a low-maintenance, vintage-inspired look rooted in indie rock and electro music. In 2026, it’s predicted to return with leather boots and jackets, and a strong emphasis on studded accessories and clothing – reminiscent of 2014 Tumblr. This trend forecast reflects a shift away from the “clean girl” aesthetic.
Oversized and baggy clothing
Oversized and baggy clothing marks another move away from the polished, old-money look that has dominated the past few years. Baggier jeans are here to stay, and there’s no sign of skinny jeans making a comeback in 2026. If anything, the trend will shift towards low-rise bootcut styles. There was also an increase in oversized polo shirts this year, a style set to grow in popularity in 2026. Brands such as Ralph Lauren, Hollister, and Fred Perry are expected to dominate this trend, especially in the second-hand market.
Boho
Chloé is a brand that has risen in popularity over the past year, gaining attention for its balloon-sleeve, delicate, semi-sheer boho blouses and tops. Flowy boho skirts were also seen a lot this summer. This trend ties in well with the baggy, carefree style that’s becoming increasingly popular with styles like layering of skirts and dresses over trousers, which could definitely make a strong return next summer. Pantone’s colour of the year is ‘Cloud Dancer’, and the soft, airy feel aligns perfectly with the revival of boho chic.
Pirate Core
Pirate core is emerging from a blend of indie and boho influences, marked by balloon trousers, lace bell sleeves, and a growing trend of nautical themes. Pirate style boots have been gradually gaining popularity, as well as studded and wider statement belts. Vintage silk scarves worn over jeans also appeared a lot throughout this year. These elements point towards Pirate Core becoming a much bigger trend for 2026.
