Cool, vibey and centrally located, Yotel Manchester has plenty to shout about. Perched on Deansgate just a stone’s throw away from the trendy Spinningfields district, it’s ideal for those keen to experience all the action the city has to offer.
Formerly a rather drab and dated 1960’s office block, the transformation is quite remarkable. The hotel’s adjoining restaurant and bar spills out onto the street with its attractive terrace and gives off the illusion it’s a separate venue. A clever move considering so many of the best hotel bars never get the attention they deserve.
The interiors are wildly eclectic, with a mishmash of vibrant colours, bold statement walls, neon signage and edgy ornaments. The self-service check-in system at the hotel’s entrance is a bit of a mind scramble, however, the friendly staff at reception more than make up for this. Our room, whilst compact, has a modern feel and features everything you need and more. The flat-screen TV is geared up with Netflix and YouTube, there’s a mini safe, a desk and plenty of space to hang your party threads.
The bathroom boasts a powerful rain shower, an anti-fog mirror and Urban Jungle beauty products. Rooms don’t include tea or coffee-making facilities, instead, each floor features its own high-tech coffee machine with multiple options and mini-fridge.
Dinner downstairs at Motley was fantastic. The Antipodean-style menu has a ton of tasty options, ranging from inventive small plates to hearty burgers and other large plates. Highlights include the bold Chorizo and Mozzarella Arancini with chilli jam, the Thai Spiced Chicken Bon Bons and the Sweet and Sour Pork Bao Buns.
Hats off too to the incredible Manchester Egg, which offers a nice local spin on the classic Scotch egg with its Bury black pudding and homemade piccalilli. Wine lovers are in for a treat here too. We can highly recommend the Californian Chardonnay and Argentinian Malbec.
Final verdict
Unlike your average mid-price hotel, Yotel has bags of personality. With eye-catching interiors, cosy rooms, great food and exceptional service, it offers so much more than its modest price tag suggests.
