Vicinity Bar Review: Flawless Cocktails with Iconic Tower of London Views

Wednesday 06th Sep 2023 |

Perched on the edge of the Tower of London UNESCO World Heritage Site, Vicinity is proof that sipping cocktails al fresco at the foot of one of the UK’s most historic landmarks doesn’t have to cost the earth.

Despite being attached to the 4-star Tower Hotel, the bar has an appealing independent look and feel that attracts passers-by as well as hotel guests. Offering up a tempting selection of both classic and bespoke Champagne cocktails, as well as afternoon tea and an extensive all-day dining menu, it makes for a great spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing.

Signature dishes here take inspiration from across the globe and range from traditional fish and chips to rustic stone baked pizzas and pesto tagliatelle. Prices here won’t break the bank either, with main dishes priced at around £18. Your average cocktail will set you back around £11.75 a pop.

After taking a prime table on the terrace by the River Thames, we began with a round of Espresso Martinis to perk us up ahead of our Shoreditch bar crawl. Perfectly mixed using classic ingredients, Vicinity’s take on this beloved tipple was spot-on.

We followed these up with a Whisky Sour and a Cosmopolitan, which also utilised the tried and tested recipes to great effect. After some more people-watching, we stepped inside The Tower Hotel to catch some of the city’s best vistas.

The 12th floor is home to many of the hotel’s meeting rooms, which are ideal if you want to do business set against some eye-catching backdrops. The panoramic views here allow you to take in the Shard, Tower of London and HMS Belfast. It’s also worth noting that each of the 801 guest rooms offers views of either Tower Bridge or St Katherine’s Docks.

We headed back out to the Vicinity terrace just as the sun was coming down and the firepits were beginning to flicker. Ending things on a sweet note, we enjoyed a round of exceptional Champagne cocktails served with strawberries and fresh cream.

Final verdict

Vicinity is a real asset to The Tower Hotel and a great stop-off point for food and drinks with exceptional service and memorable views. Service is swift and friendly and the choice of spirits, wines and Champagnes is just as impressive as the location.
