A new study by DIPNDIVE examined global cities for solo female travelers in 2025 to reveal the safest and most budget-friendly destinations. The research evaluated major tourist destinations by comprehensively analyzing 10+ factors, including safety metrics, living costs, accommodation prices, and cultural accessibility factors. A final composite score was calculated based on these factors, ranking the cities from best to worst.

Helsinki comes in 1st place on the list of cheapest destinations for solo female travel with a composite score of 60. The Finnish capital offers a high safety index of 75.3 and an outstanding friendliness score of 90, making it a welcoming destination. With 134 free tourist attractions and a well-connected transport network, solo travelers can explore comfortably while benefiting from moderate hotel prices at $88.

Zagreb ranks 2nd, excelling in safety with a score of 78. The city offers the lowest living costs at $801.8 per month among the top-ranked cities and an impressive English proficiency level, making it easy for travelers to navigate.

Berlin takes 3rd spot, standing out for its cultural accessibility. The city features the highest number of free attractions at 427, allowing travelers to experience its rich history at little to no cost. With hotel prices averaging $58 per night and a highly efficient public transport system, it remains a strong option for solo female travelers.

Singapore is the 4th most affordable destination for solo female explorers, with a total score of 52. The city has an impressive safety index of 77.4. Singapore offers the cheapest hotel rates at $46 per night among the top-ranked Asian cities, providing a budget-friendly option in a modern urban setting.

Warsaw secures 5th place, with a composite score of 51,  offering strong safety ratings and excellent affordability. The Polish capital’s cost of living at $796.20 per month is among the lowest, making it a top choice for budget-conscious solo female travelers.

Chicago ranks 6th on the list of wallet-friendly destinations for women traveling alone. The city offers an extensive range of 229 free attractions, making it a valuable destination for those prioritizing experiences.

Madrid comes in 7th as a  safe and affordable place for women traveling solo, with a composite score of 48.  The city leads in hotel affordability at just $38 per night. The Spanish capital’s friendliness index of 98 and strong cultural offerings make it a standout Mediterranean destination.

Vienna secures 8th place with a composite score of 46. Vienna offers a well-rounded mix of safety and cultural experiences and moderate hotel prices of $54 per night, making it an ideal European destination for solo travelers.

New York City ranks 9th in the list of top low-cost cities for solo female travelers in 2025. The city offers the most free attractions at 630 among all ranked locations, though it has the highest cost of living.

Budapest rounds out the top 10 with a composite score of 45. The Hungarian capital offers budget-friendly accommodations at $42 dollars per night, making it an excellent option for travelers looking for an affordable European experience.

Methodology: This study ranks the most budget-friendly and safe destinations for solo female travelers in 2025 by evaluating safety, affordability, and accessibility. Data was collected on safety scores from global databases, friendliness levels, English proficiency, living costs, budget hotel prices, meal expenses, free tourist attractions, and climate comfort. Safety was the most heavily weighted factor at 30%, followed by cost-related metrics at 25%. Cultural accessibility contributed 20%, the number of free attractions accounted for 15%, and climate comfort made up the remaining 10%. Each metric was normalized to a 0-100 scale, with weighted scores combined to produce a final composite score. Cities were ranked in descending order, with additional qualitative factors considered for a well-rounded assessment. This approach ensures a data-driven ranking that highlights destinations offering both security and affordability for solo female travelers in 2025.
