The New Inn at Eccup Reopens After a Warm and Welcoming Refurbishment

Tucked away on the edge of North Leeds, the New Inn at Eccup has long been a country-pub favourite for walkers, families and anyone exploring the peaceful lanes around Eccup Reservoir. After a period of closure for a full refurbishment, the pub has now reopened — refreshed, refined and looking better than ever. I visited last night having been an infrequent visitor over the years and I was really impressed with the new look.

The moment you step back inside, it’s clear the team have worked hard to preserve everything people loved about the place. There’s still that unmistakable Yorkshire warmth: the glow of the open fire, soft lamplight, deep green walls, framed artwork and rustic wooden tables. Leather seating and traditional details give the pub a familiar, cosy character while feeling newly polished.

A Food Offering That Takes Centre Stage

The New Inn’s updated menu puts food firmly in the spotlight — and it’s easy to see this becoming a strong dining destination for North Leeds.

Starters include comforting and refined dishes such as salt and pepper squid with lemon and aioli, minted lamb koftas with tzatziki, chicken liver pâté with toasted bloomer, and Shetland mussels served in two styles. There’s also a daily soup served with warm focaccia.

The mains champion proper British pub cooking with a modern touch: steak and ale pie filled with tender slow-cooked beef, fisherman’s pie layered with salmon and prawns in a creamy béchamel, crisp haddock and chips with minted mushy peas, venison haunch steak with honey-glazed roots, chicken saltimbocca, salmon conchiglie and a hearty beef lasagne. Vegetarians and vegans also have delicious options, including a tomato-rich gnocchi pomodoro.

The burger menu adds even more choice, with The New Inn Burger stacked with bacon and onion rings, a Cajun chicken burger with spice and sour cream, a lamb burger with crumbling feta, and a plant-based Beyond Burger.

Desserts continue the comfort-food theme: sticky toffee pudding, chocolate fudge cake, mulled berry crumble and an avocado and lime cheesecake provide plenty of classics and a few modern twists.

Sundays are also a major feature here, with traditional Sunday lunches served from 12pm using fresh, locally sourced meats and seasonal vegetables.

Always a Space for Drinkers — A Promise from Kyle

In an era where many pubs are becoming food-only venues, the New Inn is determined to keep things balanced.

Kyle, the landlord, has made it clear that there will always be space for drinkers — whether you’re calling in for a pint, meeting friends for a relaxed drink or enjoying time at the bar before dinner.

It’s a reassuring commitment for locals who still want a welcoming, traditional pub atmosphere alongside great food.

Rooted in Yorkshire Heritage

Eccup is one of Leeds’ most scenic pockets of countryside, surrounded by woodland, farmland and the wide, peaceful stretch of Eccup Reservoir. The New Inn has been a landmark here for generations — a place to warm up, wind down and come together.

The refurbishment honours that history without losing the pub’s identity. The soul of the New Inn is still there — just refreshed, refined and ready for a new chapter.

A Warm Return for a Local Favourite

With its thoughtful interiors, elevated menu and a commitment to staying a proper pub at heart, the New Inn at Eccup feels perfectly placed to welcome back regulars and new visitors alike.

Whether you’re stopping by for a pint, settling in for a meal or planning a Sunday roast, the newly refurbished New Inn offers a warm Yorkshire welcome every time.
