To help your website and webpages to rank higher on the search engine, you need to optimize your website according to SEO. Once your website is well optimized for the search engines, it will appear more relevant to the searches than your competitors.
That being said, if a user looks for a relevant keyword, your website will rank higher than your competitors’ websites, leading to a higher conversion rate and sales.
Talking about SEO, it can be divided into three types.
- On-Page SEO: On-Page is all about optimizing your content for the relevant keywords. Whenever these keywords are looked at or searched on search engines, your website or web content will rank higher than your competitors. In fact, this is where you find how effective your content marketing is.
- Off-Page SEO: Off-Page SEO involves sharing of your website and content to other platforms. The more you get backlinks from high-quality domains with high domain authority, the better your website’s online credibility will be.
- Technical SEO: Technical SEO is all about maintaining your website’s health and ensuring there are no errors. The role of technical SEO is to look for errors and notify the admin for correction. Most of your web design, coding, and performance are part of technical SEO.
What Are Google Ads?
If Google Ads doesn’t ring any bells, then Google Adwords might sound familiar. These are paid advertising campaigns that use keywords to target audiences.
Whenever a searcher is looking for something online, they use a keyword. The moment they use a keyword that is relevant to the keyword for which you are running online ads, the ads will pop up for the users.
Each time your ads come up on the SERP, and someone clicks it, you will have to pay a fee to the search engine. Note that this fee is chargeable when someone clicks on the ad.
The best part of Google ads is that, unlike SEO, it brings quick results. In our experience, we have seen that the only difference you can see between the two is how fast they bring results.
For SEO, you are not paying anything to search engines, so you have to stick with best SEO practices. However, with Google Ads, you are paying to get traffic to your website. This way, you get instant traffic with Google ads.
That being said, Google ads appear in different forms.
- Google Shopping Ads: These ads usually appear at the top of search engine result pages in the form of carousel format. They include product images with some additional information.
- Search Ads: Search ads are the ads that generally appear at the top of the SERPs. They look similar to that of SERPs, but after carefully looking at them, you can see an ad tag. The ad tag shows that they are search ads.

SEO Vs. Google Ads
By now, you must have understood the importance of SEO and Google ads. Let’s compare the two and understand the differences.
- Traffic: Google Ads will help businesses to stay ahead of their competitors almost immediately, while SEO is a long-term strategy that takes time before showing any results. Furthermore, SEO generates traffic continuously, while Google ads generate traffic for a short time.
- Time: Google ads can help your content rank and expose the product to the audiences almost immediately, while it takes months for your efforts to bore fruits with SEO. However, you must know that Google Ads generate traffic as long as you pay for them. But, once you have established SEO, you can stay in a higher position for the long term.
- Placement: In Google Ads, you have control over where you want your ads to place. You select the area where you want your ad to be displayed. However, that can’t be said for SEO. SEO is all about how well optimized your website is, and the ranking is decided on those factors.
- Tracking Metrics: With Google Ads, you have access to detailed metrics. You can use all the information to track the ROI. On the other hand, it is difficult to track the performance of SEO. It keeps on changing every single day based on trends.
SEO Or Google Ads: Which Is Better?
Now that you have understood the difference between the two, you will find it easy to know which is better than the other.
While comparing the two, which one is better than the other, you will find that both have strong suits that overpower the other.
For instance, if you are just starting your business and need some immediate traffic to your website, going with google ads might seem more reasonable. But the downside is that you will enjoy traffic as long as you are paying for it.
However, in the case of SEO, things are different and free. You do not have to pay for the traffic that visits your website. Instead, you just need to optimize your website and content with best SEO practices.
