When it comes to your fitness habits in 2022, whatever you choose to do, do it with kindness

With Random Acts Of Kindness Day taking place on 17th February, Psycle wants to highlight the fascinating link between thinking kind thoughts and the physical effect this has on the body. Recent studies have revealed that acts of kindness produce oxytocin (otherwise known as  ‘the kindness hormone’), which helps to lower blood pressure and improve our overall heart-health.

This is the motivation behind Psycle expanding their mindfulness offering to also embrace kindfulness practices, all available via their Psycle at Home platform. Dr David Hamilton, who is an expert in the science of kindness explains that, “Committing acts of kindness lowers blood pressure as acts of kindness create emotional warmth, which releases a hormone known as oxytocin. Oxytocin causes the release of a chemical called nitric oxide, which dilates the blood vessels. This reduces blood pressure, so oxytocin is a ‘cardio-protective’ hormone as it protects the heart by lowering blood pressure

These ‘Kindness hormones’ produce the opposite effect to stress in the body.  By shifting our focus to something ‘kindly’ we change the biochemical environment inside our brain. It also increases our self-esteem and optimism, which both feel extremely relevant at the moment, when so much human connection is still unavoidably missing from our lives.

If that wasn’t enough, it’s also been shown to reduce levels of free-radicals, which play a significant role in the aging process of our cells, helping our skin to stay looking younger.
