Provence Spinningfields review: Exceptional wines and grazing boards

Monday 03rd Apr 2023 |

Boasting a stellar collection of wines from around the world, quality cheese and charcuterie sharing boards and a cellar geared up for wine-oke, Provence brings something fresh to Manchester.

Founded by Anthony Ellis who wanted to make wine tasting far more accessible, this small but perfectly formed wine bar sits pretty on the edge of the upmarket Spinningfields district. The warm lighting, dark colours and wooden-panelled interiors create a cosy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for sipping wine with friends.

We find the place filling up nicely on a late Saturday afternoon with a mixed crowd of couples and groups of women. Those concerned that the Wine-oke may create a more party-centric vibe need not worry, as this takes place exclusively downstairs in the cellar.

We kick things off with a glass of the fantastic Sea Change Rose from the Provence region of France. Easily one of the best roses from Provence I’ve tasted, this light and refreshing pale pink wine mixes floral notes with citrus fruits and strawberries. It goes down very easily and is well worth its £40 price tag for the bottle.

Next, we tried the Entreflores Albarino from Spain, another silky smooth light wine that packs in notes of mint, pineapple and white flowers. It’s another mouth-watering choice and goes down a treat with our delicious tasting boards.

Consisting of a mix of meats ranging from prosciutto to chorizo, sweet peppers and a selection of rich cheeses, Provence have managed to put together a diverse selection of grazing boards to suit all palates, as well as their extensive collection of wines.

With over 80 variants to choose from ranging from the UK to Portugal, Provence makes for an excellent destination for those looking for a more refined wine selection. Serving up some exceptional wines, many which you will not find elsewhere or served by the glass, it’s a bona fide wine lovers paradise.
