Online Trading While on Vacation

Thursday 24th Nov 2022 |

The holiday season is once more here with us. You’ve been working hard throughout the year and looking forward to some well-deserved rest.

Furthermore, with the energy crisis in the European continent, this winter is gearing up to be colder than most in recent memory. Conversely, if you’re one of the lucky few who can afford it, you might consider taking a vacation in a nice hot place.

However, due to the tough economic conditions, you might also consider trading while on vacation to help cover your expenses. But before you throw your laptop and swimming trunks in your travel bag, you should know a few things about trading on vacation. This piece will take you through how to prepare so you can trade and still make the most of your vacation.

Your Travelling Trading Station

When going on vacation, you want to take as little luggage as possible, and your three-monitor trading station won’t do. Fortunately, laptops and smartphones have gotten powerful enough to suffice as trading station substitutes for a few days. However, we recommend taking a laptop with decent specs as it will be more powerful and its screen large and bright enough to use comfortably.

Furthermore, you can open multiple windows, which will substitute your extra screens and make doing research and other pertinent tasks easier.

How Connected Will You Be?

It’s incredible how some of the prettiest and most expensive places on earth have the worst internet connections. But to their credit, you want to avoid travelling and spending all that money to spend your time looking at your screen as you do at home. Even with this, if you’re to trade, ensure you have your own internet source that will be reliable and powerful enough to avoid delays.

Pack a mobile Wifi stick which can provide a steady connection and enable you to trade from your room or down at your hotel’s poolside. You should also carry your smartphone and use its hot stop as a backup if all fails.

Security

Your online security and your personal security are of the utmost importance. As such, only ensure to travel to secure destinations that are reputable. However, your online security is another thing altogether. Hotels and resorts make for easy targets for cyber criminals who use shared wifi connections to gain access to unsuspecting users’ information, where your trading account could be at risk.

Using a secure internet connection, like bringing your own mobile WiFi stick or hot spotting from your phone, is an excellent way to avoid such scams. Furthermore, use a VPN to help mask your IP. Some of the best trading and investment apps in the UK don’t allow access to UK trading accounts from IPs outside the country. This will keep you from falling prey to phishing expeditions from your travel destination and keep your account in a good standing order with your broker.

Time Management

If you’re like most trades, chances are you like trading and can often get lost in your work for hours without even realising the time. But as good as that is for your productivity, you also need to realise you’re on vacation and need to rest and spend time with family and friends. However, the type of trader you are will significantly affect your ability to trade while on vacation.

If you’re a day trader, we recommend switching off entirely and taking the time to rest. You cannot manage to enter and monitor positions effectively enough to make economic sense and relax simultaneously. But if you’re a swing or position trader, dedicate two to three hours daily to looking at the markets and adjusting your strategies.

Don’t Forget to Enjoy Yourself

We know the current economic situation is looking bleak, and stepping away from your work might seem like the wrong thing to do. However, it’s essential to remember that the world is always ending, there is always something to do, and time waits for no man. Your time on vacation is special and will give you time to heal your mind and soul and reconnect with those close to you. So remember to chill and enjoy a few sunsets and the feeling of sand between your toes. There will be new trading opportunities for you tomorrow.
