Motel One Glasgow: A Handsome Budget Hotel in the Heart of the City

Friday 07th Jun 2024 |

If you’re seeking out a wallet-friendly base to explore the bright lights of buzzing central Glasgow, then Motel One offers everything you need and some. Conveniently located right next to Central Station, the hotel features a bold contemporary design, a pleasing late check-out and the warmest staff you could hope to meet.

Walking into the spacious reception area, you’re immediately hit with a mish-mash of eclectic style that’s ultra-modern and peppered with humour (the fluffy sheep come to mind). Motel One’s signature egg chairs are dotted around, whilst cosy sofas and a warm lighting scheme create warmth.

Despite the fact that Motel One is a German chain, care has been taken to create a bespoke look that pays homage to its location with art dotted around depicting the Scottish highlands. Who says budget hotels are lacking in character?

Reception staff here are especially charming, going out of their way to recommend the best the city has to offer. One girl wrote us out a list of essential local bars and cultural hotspots, which was a nice touch.

Rooms whilst being a little on the small side, make up for it in comfort and style. Beds are large and comfy with 100% Egyptian cotton sheets and the brand’s signature shade of teal runs throughout the space.

The bathrooms are spot-on too, with a large shower and complimentary toiletries. The only downside was the TV, which felt like it really could do with a system upgrade with its lack of channels and streaming options. It felt a bit like we’d gone back to 2010 when we clicked it on to seek out a movie.

Motel One doesn’t feature a restaurant, however, the One Lounge behind reception serves up a solid continental breakfast with fresh coffee, cold meats, eggs, pastries and granola. They also offer toasties, sandwiches and snacks should you get peckish later in the day. There’s also a bar offering a decent selection of cocktails, beers and wine.

Final verdict

Motel One is the perfect bolthole from which to explore Glasgow’s vast city centre, offering up comfort and character that goes way beyond the modest price tag. With rooms starting from as little as £89, it’s an absolute steal considering its prime location.
