French-inspired festivities at RAILS Restaurant

From a Festive Afternoon Tea to a seasonal menu made for sharing with friends and family through to a decadent New Year’s Eve party, luxury Grade II listed Great Northern Hotel, located in the heart of King’s Cross, is the perfect place to eat, drink and be merry.

Festive Afternoon Tea

For a break from festive shopping, retreat to the cosy confines of RAILS Restaurant with a Festive Afternoon Tea. Guests will be spoilt for choice with savouries such as turkey and cranberry or brie and apple, as well as a leek, thyme and Comté quiche. Sweet treats include an eggnog tart with a gingerbread man, a spiced apple crumble muffin and a red cherry and chestnut yule log, as well as classic delicious scones with lashings of jam and cream. Pair the experience with tea from the East India Company or a glass of fizz to cheers to the most magical time of year.

Festive Dining

From 18 November, groups of six or more can enjoy a delicious two or three-course menu full of seasonal favourites with a French touch at RAILS Restaurant. Begin with starters such as French onion soup with cheese crouton or duck and pistachio terrine. For mains, choose from tender roast turkey served with all the traditional trimmings or opt for braised ox cheek with pomme purée and red win jus. Vegetarians can select an aubergine ‘meatball’ in miso sauce served with sautéed spinach and roasted seeds. Round-off the menu with a classic Christmas pudding with plenty of brandy sauce or a chocolate and hazelnut delice served with a blood orange gel and candied ginger. Alternatively, enjoy a selection of seasonal cheeses with seeded crackers and homemade quince jelly before tea, coffee and mince pies.

Jazz it up for New Year’s Eve

Ring in the new year in style with a four-course dinner accompanied by the silky-smooth sounds of jazz from Rocca Brother’s Vocal Trio. Sip on a glass of crisp Nyetimber Classic Cuvée paired with a chef’s amuse bouche and delicious starters, before feasting on the star of the show: Beef Wellington or Vegetarian Wellington with winter truffle mash, rainbow chard and Bordelaise sauce. Between courses, an Amalfi lemon sorbet provides a refreshing interlude before a decadent finale of white chocolate mousse and raspberry globe alongside petit fours with tea and coffee. When the clock strikes midnight, guests will be handed a glass of champagne or non-alcoholic drink to celebrate the start of 2025. Santé!
