Indoor-outdoor living experts at Pergolux UK have shared that mocha tones and wild gardens are just some of the trends we’ll see as we enter the new season.

As the UK prepares to say goodbye to the winter, many of us will be looking forward to getting back into the garden and making use of our outdoor spaces again.

The experts have highlighted the different garden trends we can expect to see this spring and are encouraging homeowners to get ahead and prepare their outdoor space.

Sam Stevens, garden design expert at Pergolux UK, said: “Winter is almost over which means it’s nearly time to enjoy longer, brighter days and stunning blooms once again.

“This spring we’re expecting to see a growth in warm brown tones thanks to the Pantone Colour of the Year being Mocha Mousse.

“After last year’s wet and stormy weather, more gardeners will be making sure their outdoor space is weather resistant by improving their drainage and opting for durable garden materials.

“As we know, homeowners are also looking at the garden as an extension of their home now, which is why we’re expecting a lot of people to adopt indoor-outdoor living this spring.

“This is great for hosting and really allows people to maximise the use of their gardens. Hopefully, we’ll have plenty of bright and sunny days ahead of us to make the most out of our outdoor spaces!”

Seven garden trends you’ll be seeing this spring:

Weather resistant gardens

Last year brought the 6th wettest spring the UK has ever seen, so it’s no surprise that gardeners across the country will be looking to create a weather-resistant garden. Opting for resilient plants, improving soil drainage and selecting durable materials are just some of the ways to protect gardens from potentially harsh weather.

Indoor-outdoor living

Over the last few years, there has been a shift with homeowners looking to turn their gardens into functional living space. As spring approaches, many people will be looking to add features such as pergolas, outdoor kitchens and comfortable seating areas.

Mocha tones

With the Pantone Colour of the Year being Mocha Mousse, expect to see warm brown tones throughout many gardens. This deep chocolatey colour can be incorporated into gardens through features such as throws and blankets, elegant furniture and earthy planters for a warm and inviting look.

Vertical gardening

Vertical gardening is a trend we can expect to see more of for many reasons. Vertical gardening encourages those with smaller outdoor spaces to get creative with greenery, by making use of walls and balconies. For those with larger spaces, vertical gardening can be a great way to decorate garden structures and enhance aesthetic appeal.

Wild gardens

The approach to gardening is shifting to people choosing to ditch neat and tidy gardening and opt for a wild garden instead. Wild gardening embraces a more organic and natural garden instead of neatly maintained flowerbeds and lawns. Letting a wild and unstructured garden grow will allow gardeners to embrace the relaxing side of the hobby

Wildlife friendly spaces

More and more people are becoming conscious of helping our wildlife and taking care of  the environment. Wild gardens and nectar-rich plants are just some of the ways to welcome local wildlife into your outdoor space.

Growing your own

Grow your own is another trend that has been on the rise over the past few years and is showing no signs of slowing down. This spring, we can expect to see gardens growing popular vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes and chillies just to name a few!
