Autumn Colours in the Nordics: A Luxury 12-Night Journey
A new immersive autumn experience has launched in the Nordics, inviting travellers to explore the region’s landscapes, cities and skies as they transform with the season.
Designed to showcase the vibrancy of the time of year, guests will embark on a journey through Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, where the picturesque colours of Autumn reimagine the scenery.
The 14-night Autumn Colours in the Nordics, available from August to September, was created by specialist travel company Off the Map Travel to immerse travellers in the stunning autumn colours of Scandinavia, exploring it by private boat, embarking on gourmet cycling adventures, getting creative in an immersive autumn painting workshop, enjoying scenic hikes and unwinding in hillside retreats overlooking the Alps.
“As autumn paints the Nordics in colour, the Northern Lights return to the skies for stunning displays without the winter chill, and with the summer crowds behind, it’s the perfect time to embrace the region’s picturesque beauty,” Jonny Cooper, founder of Off the Map Travel, said.
“We’ve designed this experience to celebrate the best of autumn in the Nordics, a season often overlooked compared to winter and summer.
“Not only can you witness the Northern Lights from late August through the autumn months, but there’s also an array of activities truly capturing the essence of the season, like cinnamon baking, forest hikes in the crisp air and cycling through the glowing landscapes.”
The autumn adventure begins in Norway’s Ålesund, where guests experience the Art Nouveau charm beautifully enhanced by the season’s golden hues. After arriving at Hotel Brosundet, unwind with coastal views and cosy dining, setting the perfect autumnal tone. The next day, enjoy a private walk through the town’s colourful streets and savour local cuisine at Apotekergata No.5. Over the following days, nature lovers can explore the breathtaking autumn landscapes of Norway. Hike up Storhornet on the island of Godøya for sweeping 360° vistas of the ocean and the Sunnmøre Alps; enjoy a private boat journey into the secluded Hjørundfjord, with a front-row seat to cascading waterfalls and colourful, open landscapes.
Unwind in a Superior Forest View Room at the Storfjord Hotel, a hideaway on the hillside overlooking the fjords, with stunning views of the vibrant autumn colours contrasting against crisp, clear skies. Enjoy a relaxed hike up Haugtua, where sweeping views of the stunning natural landscape unfold, offering panoramic views of forests dazzling in colour.
The escape continues to Stockholm, the perfect autumn city break, rich in culture, history and seasonal charm. Check in to the cosy and stylish Bank Hotel in the heart of the city, before heading to a historic castle park, for an afternoon immersive painting workshop set amongst meadows lined with golden autumn trees covered in rust-coloured leaves and views out across the water. Guided by an art educator, gather inspiration from Prince Eugen’s art collection and the seasonal exhibitions, exploring the season’s shifting palette and translating the surrounding autumn landscape into colour and form, leaving with a renewed connection to creativity and nature.
Guests will continue their time in Stockholm exploring Gamla Stan’s cobbled alleys on a private tour, visit the Royal Palace, ferry to Djurgården to see the Vasa warship, and enjoy time to explore at their own pace. Food lovers take a scenic ferry to Vaxholm for a hands-on cinnamon bun baking class with a local host- the comforting scent of freshly baked treats making it a cosy, cultural highlight.
Finally, guests fly to Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen for the finishing touch to their autumn escape, checking into a Superior Double Room at Villa Copenhagen. Over the next few days, they will indulge their senses in outdoor activities; glide through the city’s water on a private canal boat tour, feeling the crisp autumn air as they witness iconic landmarks. Pedal through neighbourhoods flooded with golden displays on a private culinary bike tour, tasting hidden local hearty delights while soaking up the city’s vibrant bike culture. Experience the rich autumnal sights and scents of Tivoli Gardens, decorated with pumpkins and lanterns, or the quiet warmth of the National Gallery, offering a perfect refuge from the crisp weather outside.
“Throughout the trip, guests will enjoy curated experiences, boutique accommodation, and the rich textures of Scandinavia in its most colourful season- this is a trip for travellers seeking authenticity, comfort, and slow-paced adventure among fjords, islands, and Nordic capitals,” Cooper added.
