Anantara The Marker: Discovering the Delights of Dublin

Tuesday 17th Dec 2024 |

The charm of Dublin beckons visitors from all over the globe. Known for its lively pub culture, rich history and the warmth of its people, Dublin is a city woven from the threads of legend and literature.

From the mythic tales of ancient Ireland to the celebrated works of literary giants like James Joyce, Yeats and Samuel Beckett, the city has long been a muse for poets, playwrights and dreamers. And we can’t wait to let our imaginations free in this storied city.

We are based at the Anantara The Marker Dublin Hotel, a striking landmark in the heart of the regenerated Docklands district. It’s the epitome of luxury with its sleek, contemporary architecture and elegant interiors.

Our corner room has dual-aspect, floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the shimmering waters of the canal and distant mountains. It’s huge and light-filled with a comfortable seating area, giant bed dressed with luxury linen and gleaming marble bathroom.

The hotel’s facilities include The Rooftop Bar and Terrace with 360-degree views of the city, the award-winning restaurant Forbes Street by Gareth Mullins and an indulgently beautiful spa.

The sun is shining (an unusual phenomenon our Irish hosts tell us), so we’re ushered up to the rooftop for lunch while the weather is fine. Lunch is indulgently superb and utterly delicious, with chef Gareth popping over to say hello as we feast on oysters, lobster, scallops, lamb and the freshest of vegetables and fruit served with chilled Champagne. It’s like someone wrote down my favourite things and served them up all at once.

The food is glorious at Anantara, and our epicurian journey continues with the hotel’s curated Spice Spoons culinary programme, designed to showcase (and show off) the fabulous local produce. We take a short drive along the coastal trail, escorted by Chef Gareth, to the picturesque fishing village of Howth for some seal and puffin spotting by boat and to explore the local seafood market bursting with fresh produce. Then it’s back to the hotel for oyster tasting, soda bread making, and an Irish coffee masterclass. Who knew Dublin abounds with so much tastiness?

We also visit nearby White Rock Beach in Killiney. It’s huge, ruggedly beautiful and deserted,  the perfect spot for long walks and wild swimming. And the perfect way to walk off some of that delicious and irresistible cuisine.

As of course are the historic streets brimming with must-see attractions. And they’re all within walking distance of our hotel. Trinity College is home to the world-famous book of Kells and the breathtaking Long Room Library, heaven for book and history lovers. The cobbled streets of Temple Bar, Dublin’s vibrant cultural quarter are filled with music and art and there’s the serenity of St Stephen’s Green and charming Georgian squares to explore. And Guinness to drink – you’re visiting its home after all.

I’m of Irish heritage myself (proudly) so I was fascinated to visit  EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. It’s a powerful immersive exploration of Ireland’s global story exploring how Irish immigrants shaped history and communities around the world. A fascinating way of bringing Ireland’s history to life in a unique and engaging way. And a chance to learn more about those stories whose spirit resonates through those illustrious Dublin streets.

All activities can be organised by Anantara The Marker Dublin Hotel. Booking in advance is highly recommended.
