TikTok Creator Says Air Frying Beans on Toast Makes It Better
Beans on toast is one of the British classics that everyone loves just the way it is – with no fuss or frills – always reliably tasty.
But a TikTok foodie creator has shared an unexpected way to improve the nation’s favourite comfort meal – air-frying it!
With over 29m Google searches for air fryers and over half a million searches for air fryer recipes in the last month, it was only a matter of time that the British classic found its way here.
The creation, which suggests assembling the dish before sliding it into the air fryer to caramelise the beans and cheese, has been hailed “life changing” and “genius” in the comments section.
To create it yourself, the creator recommends using sourdough for the toast but scooping out a little bit of bread from the centre to add in a spoonful or two of beans. Then grate a generous amount of cheddar on top and finish with salt, pepper and some spray oil. Air fry for 8 minutes at 200C.
Mimi Morley, Senior Recipe Development Manager at HelloFresh, the world’s leading food box provider, shares her take on the latest TikTok creation, “we’ve seen some questionable ‘hacks’ in our time, but this one has legs”.
Mimi adds, “By air-frying, you’re dehydrating the tomato sauce just enough to intensify the flavour, while achieving a level of structural integrity in the bread that stands up to the beans. It’s no longer just breakfast; it’s a texture-driven experience.”
Mimi has some extra tips to further enhance this TikTok sensation, “It goes without saying that this recipe needs a thick-cut sourdough to prevent any risk of a soggy bottom. I’d also recommend applying a thin layer of butter to the edges of the bread to act as a heat barrier.”
“For those looking to make this dish feel more boujee, I’d suggest adding a pinch of smoked paprika and a dash of Worcestershire sauce before the basket goes in for extra flavour”.
