Adventure to Bermuda for an Easter to remember

Thursday 02nd Mar 2023 |

Sitting in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean lies the blissful island of Bermuda – just a 7-hour flight from London.

With its peak season running from April through to September and the introduction of a new British Airways daily flight from London Heathrow from March, now is the perfect time to book a bermudaful family escape for this spring where pink-hued beaches, turquoise waters and epic outdoor adventures await.

For a home away from home, stay at Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa, having recently undergone a $200 million renovation to celebrate its 100-year anniversary. Located at the West End of the island on a private peninsula with four private beaches, two private coves, and cottage accommodation all guaranteeing spectacular views of the ocean, Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa is the perfect place to reconnect with family. From architectural details dating back to 1663 and coves which were the hiding place of Pirate’s bounty, to modern touches such as putting greens and a renovated spa; nowhere encapsulates the last ten decades of Bermuda better.

There’s no better place to soak up the sun than on any of Bermuda’s stunning beaches, tucked along the island’s dramatic coastline. Step onto the infamous pink sands at Horseshoe Bay Beach – one of the world’s most Instagrammed beaches. Named for its curved shape, this  popular beach flaunts Bermuda’s trademark crystal blue waters and unique pink sands, perfect for a beach day with the family. Meanwhile, explorers can enter a snorkeller’s paradise at Church Bay, home to a network of shallow reefs that make for the ideal environment to nurture unique marine life, such as Parrotfish and Angelfish.

Known as the shipwreck capital of the world with more shipwrecks per square mile than anywhere else on the planet, Bermuda is home to more than 300 mysterious sunken treasures waiting to be explored. March is prime time to explore the ocean with visibility at diving sites at its finest where visitors can discover the largest shipwreck in Bermuda’s waters, the Cristóbal Colón. Its wreckage is scattered across 100,000 square feet of the sea floor offering hours of fascinating exploration of the ship’s colossal fixtures and plethora of marine life.

One of the best-kept secrets in travel, in March and April every year, travellers can head to West Whale Bay Beach to witness a mesmerising parade of majestic humpback whales as they make their annual trip through Bermuda’s waters. Bring a pair of binoculars to witness these playful, breaching mammals from dry land or head for the open seas on a whale watching boat tour to get up close and personal.

Meanwhile for the landlubber, join tour guide and local entrepreneur Kristin White on an insightful walking tour of the infamous town of St. George’s. From its founding in 1609 to St. George’s being named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, families will be taken back in time as they wander through the cobblestone streets of this picturesque island town whilst learning about Bermuda’s rich heritage and fascinating history.

With international roots and a rich natural bounty of fresh produce and seafood, Bermuda’s cuisine is as unique as the island itself with culinary experiences to suit every taste. Families looking for a special dining experience can head to the newly opened Intrepid at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club. An upscale steak, seafood and raw bar restaurant, Intrepid offers a contemporary twist on the classic American grill for an elevated dining experience. The name pays homage to real-life super spy Sir William Stephenson, who was based at the Hamilton Princess during the Second World War and a friend to Ian Fleming, author of the world-famous fictional super spy, James Bond.

For those that enjoy the farm-to-table dining experience, join naturalist and vegan chef Doreen Williams James, creator of Wild Herbs and Plants of Bermuda on a foraging tour through the Bermudian wilderness, where she’ll show you edible fruits, vegetables and herbs along the way. Afterwards, join Doreen for a cooking demonstration, sampling all of the delicious dishes she makes using these fresh and local ingredients.
