Attracting an average of 210,000 attendees each year, Glastonbury rightfully claims its place as the UK’s best music festival. With over 80 stages spread across the iconic grounds, the legendary Pyramid Stage stands out as one of the most renowned in the world. This year, festival goers experienced performances from top artists including The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo, and Noah Kahan.
Several factors contribute to Glastonbury’s top ranking. One of the most surprising being its relatively low rainfall. Compared to other festivals, it sees an average of just 68mm over the weekend, helping to keep spirits high, while its massive online presence further fuels the festival’s appeal. With over 5 million searches for the festival, and more than 1.2million Instagram posts tagged to the festival, Glastonbury continues to dominate both on the ground and across social media. As the festival is taking a break during the upcoming fallow year at Worthy Farm, it’s sure to make a highly anticipated return in 2027 with eager fans hoping for a ticket.
In second place, Hampshire’s Boomtown is known for its theatrical atmosphere and culture. Boasting the highest average temperatures among the top UK festivals, with a warm 16.9 degrees in August.
Spanning five days, Boomtown draws in an impressive 75,000 attendees on average, all eager to experience its unique blend of music, art, and live performances. The festival has 17 stages, each offering a distinct sound and experience. This year’s lineup includes standout acts such as Sex Pistols ft. Frank Carter, Sean Paul, and Nova Twins.
Reading Festival ranks third overall, recording the highest average rainfall among the top 10 festivals, with 89mm typically falling over the weekend – Whilst Manchester’s Parklife takes fourth place, it claims the top spot for social media buzz. With over 2.5 million Instagram posts tagged to the festival, Parklife holds the title of the most Instagrammed music festival in the UK. The festival also offers the second cheapest day ticket price among the top 10, starting at £97.70.
Other standout festivals in the top 10 include Victorious Festival, ranking seventh, which offers the most affordable day ticket among the top 10 priced at just £85. Meanwhile, Truck Festival, in tenth place, boasts the lowest-priced weekend ticket at £200.
Latitude and Truck Festival also tie for the warmest temperatures, with both enjoying average highs of 17.1 degrees, offering festival goers a sunnier experience.
Gabriel Destremaut, Public Relations Manager at SumUp comments on the ranking, saying “We created this index to identify and celebrate the best music festivals in the UK. With festivals attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, they provide a significant boost to local economies, driving footfall to nearby shops, restaurants, accommodation providers, and transport services.”
“Beyond this, festivals create valuable opportunities for individuals and small enterprises to operate as vendors, from food stalls and merch stands. By showcasing the festivals that are leading the way, the Index also highlights where the strongest potential lies for SMEs to engage with large, enthusiastic audiences.”
