Zero-alcohol lagers have stepped on in a big way these past few years, but the more discerning craft beer lover has been criminally underserviced. Enter Mash Gang. Launched back in 2020 by four mates experimenting with yeasts and hops in a shipping container, the brand quickly grew a cult following.

Fast forward to late 2024, and Mash Gan took the USA by storm, starting in Colorado where it soon became the number one selling beer in major Denver stores, beating industry heavyweights such as Budweiser and Guinness.

Mash Gang’s founder and head brewer Jordan Childs set out to make beer that tasted so good, you forget they’re non-alcoholic. We sampled a selection of Mash Gangs best selling brews – here are our thoughts.

Mash Gang Chug | Non-Alcoholic Hazy IPA | Available from £14

There’s a reason Chug is Mash Gang’s flagship brew – it slaps hard. Hoppy, full flavoured and packed with tropical notes, this delicious IPA has a zesty finish that beats many of its alcoholic rivals. Serve ice cold on a hot day and you’re in for a good time. Kudos to the packaging illustrator too, who can resist a beer-chugging skeleton?

Mash Gang Cult | Non-Alcoholic Hazy Pale Ale | Available from £14

Soft, juicy and brimming with notes of red fruit and a dash of candy, this hazy pale ale came a close second for us after Chug when it came to taste. If anyone tells you zero alcohol ale is bland and tasteless, serve them up a glass of Cult and wipe the smug look off their face.

Mash Gang Lesser Evil| Non-Alcoholic Cherry Chocolate Stout | Available from £17

Now, I’m not a stout fan, however, I was massively impressed with the complex taste profile showcased by Lesser Evil. Think sweet and sour cherry, smooth dark chocolate, vanilla and creamy oats, with a dash of roasted coffee thrown in. The ideal brew for anyone with a bit of a sweet tooth.
