The Mutton at Hazeley Heath – Redefining the Classic Sunday Roast

Wednesday 09th Oct 2024 |

Nestled in the heart of Hampshire, The Mutton at Hazeley Heath is not just any countryside pub—it’s where the humble Sunday roast is elevated to new heights.

Recently crowned Hampshire’s ‘Pub of the Year’ at the 2024 National Pub & Bar Awards and boasting two prestigious AA-Rosettes, The Mutton offers an unparalleled roast experience that locals love, and out-of-towners deem worth traveling for.

British classics with a conscience are the name of the game when it comes to The Mutton’s food offering. Head Chef Rob Boer draws inspiration from locally sourced British produce to create fresh, delicious dishes that capture the tempo and energy of the seasons, and the Sunday roast is no exception.

Crispy potato ‘waffle’, sour cream and chive, black garlic and radish salad, or the pub’s signature homemade crumpet which currently comes with smoked mackerel rilletes, cucumber chutney and crispy tail, fire the starting pistol.

For the star of the show diners can choose between succulent beef rump, tender leg of lamb, or a beautifully roasted butternut squash for a vegetarian twist. Each is accompanied by golden, crispy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables bursting with freshness, a perfectly puffed Yorkshire pudding, and lashings of rich, gravy. If a roast is not your thing, then opt for a beautifully reimagined pub classic like fish & chips with Hodmedod’s mushy peas, curry sauce and tartare; or sirloin steak, Béarnaise butter, pickled shallot, parmesan, and rocket salad.

A serving of The Mutton’s famous, freshly baked and seasonally flavoured, lighter-than-air Madeleines is every regular’s favourite way to round off a meal, whilst almond croissant bread and butter pudding ‘Doughnut’ with custard and rhubarb sorbet makes for sweet supremacy.

Step into this beautifully reimagined 19th-century post office turned award-winning retreat, and you’ll immediately feel the welcoming warmth of a place designed for comfort and indulgence. A collaboration with renowned interior designer Jojo Barr of House Nine Design has transformed The Mutton into a charming blend of tradition and sophistication, with cosy armchairs, country-house-style touches, and a soft palette of greens and creams.

From the thoughtful interior design to the mouth-watering Sunday roast, The Mutton at Hazeley Heath is redefining what it means to enjoy a traditional roast, creating an unforgettable experience beyond the last bite.
