Martin Seeley, CEO of MattressNextDay, has provided some expert commentary on how to refresh your bedroom in the transitional period between summer and autumn below…
“We often want our bedrooms to feel like a cosy sanctuary, however it can be hard to strike a balance during transitional weather periods. When humidity pairs with rain, for example, it can make it too hot for layers of blankets, but too rainy for summery colours and fabrics.
To refresh your bedroom in a way that makes it comfy and cosy for those humid rainy days, there are a couple of things you can do. Firstly, being cosy is often synonymous with lots of fabrics, however we don’t need to pile on all kinds of blankets, duvets, and throws to create this effect. Instead, bring fabrics into the room elsewhere. Instead of blinds, opt for floor-length curtains in light airy colours. If you have a chair in your room for a dressing table or desk, choose a fabric chair instead of hard wood or plastic. Adding additional fabric elements creates a cosy feeling environment, without adding unnecessary heat to a room.
I also recommend choosing a colour palette that aligns with both summer and autumn seasons – and these colours often lean into yellows, oranges, reds and pinks. These represent both the sunrise, sunset, and the turning of leaves which means you won’t have to refresh your colour scheme again for autumn. Bringing in shades that denote the sun allows your bedroom to feel colourful in the summer, and perfectly season as we move into autumn. Make sure to choose linen or linen-blend sheets for a fabric that adapts to all temperatures, whether it’s searing hot or freezing cold.
Mood lighting is also key for a cosy environment, and doesn’t need to be changed throughout the year. Choose energy efficient softer light bulbs to echo the sunrise and sunset effect of your colour scheme, helping to create the vibe of a summer evening. If it’s in your budget, you could even opt for a sunset lamp to help bring this to life.
Combining a sunset theme with light and airy fabrics dotted around allows you to create a comfortable and cosy space without overwhelming your bed with endless blankets and pillows which make it difficult to sleep on warmer nights.”
