From chess, to bookclub to arm knitting beautiful blankets, Rockwater is helping guests discover new hobbies in 2023
Rockwater, the beautiful beachside hub in Hove, today announces its February calendar in collaboration with local Brighton businesses, full of creative outlets for guests to uncover news skills and passions for the year ahead.
Famous for championing local brands in Brighton, Rockwater is proud to announce the start of its Rockwater Book Club in partnership with Kemptown Bookshop, Brighton’s oldest and much loved independent bookshop. Held in the cosy Lodge, book lovers will be able to curl up on big armchairs, with a glass of wine and the chosen book each month, encouraged to share their thoughts, emotions and feelings in a safe and like-minded space. From contemporary to fiction to crime, guests will get the chance to explore new genres and potentially uncover new literary favourites.

For those who were a fan of Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit TV series, Rockwater’s bi-weekly Chess Club will offer the perfect space to brush up on old skills, expand chess knowledge or learn this logical reasoning hobby from scratch. As a brand, Rockwater offers a plethora of outlets for guests to improve their mental wellbeing via its weekly So Talk – A safe space to talk, sessions and variety of wellness offerings, and now research has found that playing chess has been shown to have a positive impact on mental wellbeing and cognitive processing skills. With an opportunity to meet amazing new people and mental wellbeing benefits, there has never been a better time to take up this 1,500-year-old hobby.

Ensuring everyone’s passions are catered to, guests of Rockwater will also be able to try their hand at arm-knitting blankets, while keeping cosy on the sofa this month. The workshop, which will be run by locally founded Cocoon & Me, will give lessons on the profound art of making snuggly blankets. Made from extreme chunky vegan friendly yarn, this is perfect for beginners and expert knitters alike.
