A Parent’s Guide to Hipp vs. Holle Baby Formula

Wednesday 28th Sep 2022 |

If you are reading this article, then you’d probably heard about such baby food brands as Holle and HiPP. However, it still might be a question for you which brand is the best for your little one.

First of all, these both manufacturers have only high-quality baby goods in their range of products. Besides, these two formula brands have been around for almost a century with reliable reputations so no matter which one you choose, a kid receives everything needed for development. There could be a slight difference between them and we are going to find them out.

HiPP

Research has shown, that in breast milk, lactose is used as the source of energy and that is the reason why HiPP organic formula is all lactose based. However, there is an exception e.g. anti-reflux baby food contains maltodextrin, which helps prevent reflux because it gives density to the food.

The next important element present in the content of the HiPP formula is protein. Being on the market for more than a century, the brand learned how to imitate the ratio of protein in breast milk. Besides, there is a range of speciality formulas with different stages of protein hydrolysates aiming to help babies deal with digestive disorders. Moreover, HiPP formulas contain such essential micronutrients as prebiotics and probiotics which are needed for the immune system.

Holle

As the source of carbohydrates, the brand uses a combination of lactose and maltodextrin. The reason for adding the last one is the long saturation. It means that the duration between feeding can be slightly reduced. Usually, there are two types of proteins added to the content of baby food. They are casein and whey.

Unlike HiPP baby formula, there are no additional elements because the company doesn’t want to overwhelm the content by trying to make it as clean as possible. However, it doesn’t mean a baby won’t receive any important elements because all European formulas are made according to high-quality standards.

Similarities and Differences

The first and the most important difference for many parents is the price. Holle formula is a bit cheaper than HiPP. Talking about the similarities, it is worth noticing, that both of them have Omega-3 and 6 in the content, although, Holle introduced the use of DHA & ARA only in 2020 while HiPP has always offered these elements in all baby food.

The Bottom Line

When choosing between these two brands, you will not lose if you choose one of them. Both HiPP and Holle have a clean organic content thus minimizing digestive disorders. For example, if your little one tends to be allergic to cow’s milk protein, you can choose Holle because there is a line of formula based on goat’s milk. At the same time, HiPP offers specialty formulas to help relieve some symptoms.
