If you already know the benefits of an electric standing desk and the risks associated with being sedentary for a long time, then there is a chance that you may be thinking of switching from an adjustable set to standing desk.

An electric standing desk is simply a motorized desk that you can automatically adjust its height by pressing a button.

Ideally, you can use a High Quality Electric Standing Desks while setting or standing. Many standing desks you can find on the market are customizable, so you can decide to choose any storage options and the finish. Some of these desks have advanced features like letting you save preset heights and reminding you the time you need to stand. This article is a guide to help you buy high quality standing desks.

Understanding standing desks

The most common type of a standing desk you can find on the market is adjustable which allows you to switch from sitting to standing during the day. Sitting throughout the day can increase your risk of obesity and heart disease, but standing all day may also not be good for your health. Therefore, you need to alternate between standing and sitting throughout the day. And, if you are thinking of a treadmill desk, you may not walk on it the entire day.

You can walk at a slow pace and change to sitting. You can find some treadmill desks that come with space next to them to allow you to place a chair under them. Remember that you can find a wide range of standing desks that can meet your specific needs, but you need to know how to change their heights.

The truth is that it can be overwhelming to adjust the height of a standing desk manually. While it may not seem like time-consuming to adjust your standing desk, switching from sitting to standing and standing to sitting several times per hour can easily add up. As a result, many users tend to decrease the amount of switching and go back to their old habit of sitting.

One of the best options you can avoid is to choose hydraulic desks. These desks don’t need any strength to adjust them. Even better, the adjusting process is usually quiet.

Electric adjustment is another common form of standing desk. If you work in a quiet office, then it makes sense to find a quieter desk for your office. Measured in decibels, most of them are between 40 and 70 decibels. Whispering in a library is at least 30 decibels and a normal conversation is between 60 and 65 decibels.

If you keep a lot of items on your desk, then you need to consider the weight of the motor. You should note that you need to include the tabletop in the weight that the motor can handle. Some standing desks can lift only 50 pounds. If you are unsure how much your items weigh, then you should weigh everything on your desk.

An electric desk can usually have many memory settings that are similar to those in some car seats. Therefore, if you share your electric desk with office workers or family members, having between two and four presets may save you a lot of time in adjusting. You just need to press a button for the electric desk to adjust to the right height for you.

Minimum and maximum height can be a problem for short and tall people. In most cases, the range is often between 21 and 56 inches. If you are standing, you can type while your elbows are at your sides and the forearms are slightly angled down to the floor. The laptop or monitor can be placed at eye level.

Using a standing desk

As explained earlier, sitting for long periods can be bad for your health. Even rigorous exercise that you do after working cannot reverse the damage caused by sitting for hours. Thankfully, the best solution is to move constantly. Changing positions is good for your health. And, the purpose of a standing desk is to allow you to change positions. You should remember that a standing desk should not entirely replace sitting. Instead, it’s there to break the habit of sitting for extended intervals.

When you decide to use a standing desk, you can find a variety of options to choose from. You can choose to try a standing desk without committing to expensive set ups. This can include elevating your mouse surface, keyboard, and monitor above the current desk using a stack of books or a box.

If you can work at several computers or use a laptop, you should consider having two separate workstations that include one low and one high workstation. Several people can share a dedicated standing desk with each individual utilizing it for a couple of minutes at a time. Remember that a shared standing workstation shouldn’t be fancy, meaning you don’t need filing cabinets or phones.

It’s worth noting that a standing desk needs to be ergonomically adjusted so that your posture is in best form. The top of your screen needs to be at least the length of your arm from your face and level with your eyes. And, when you are standing, your elbows should be at least ninety degrees and your hands should hover above the keyboard. This means you should adjust the height of your keyboard and not your body.

Being on your feet for a long time can also place a strain on your body. Therefore, standing desks can be a supplement to regular desks, and not a replacement. It can be exhausting to stand for long periods, especially if your body is not used to it. You should note that a standing desk doesn’t have an armrest, so you need to make sure that your elbows rest on armrests occasionally to have a bit of a break. Your neck can do a lot of work if your elbows don’t rest. When you decide to use a standing desk for the first time, you should limit it to at least ten minutes and work yourself up where you can stand for a longer period.
