Muckrach Country House Welcomes Guests Back for Nightly Stays from April 2026
Muckrach Country House has re-opened its doors to guests for nightly stays, marking a new chapter for the historic Highland retreat set within the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.
Originally built in 1861 as a Victorian shooting lodge, Muckrach Country House has been thoughtfully reimagined to offer a refined yet relaxed country house experience, blending historic character with contemporary comfort. Located in Dulnain Bridge near Grantown-on-Spey, the house sits within a private Highland estate close to the River Spey, approximately 20 miles south-east of Inverness and 14 miles north-east of Aviemore.
Guests are welcomed into a beautifully restored granite house where open fires, rich interiors and carefully considered spaces create a sense of warmth and ease from the moment they arrive. The house offers eleven elegant en-suite guest rooms, each individually styled to reflect the surrounding landscape.
Throughout the house, thoughtful details elevate the experience – from indulgent Arran Sense of Scotland toiletries to a well-stocked whisky bar for lingering evenings, and a baby grand piano that sets the tone for relaxed gatherings. Outside, the surrounding landscape unfolds in ancient woodland and open Highland countryside, where you will also find resident Highland cows, Hamish and Dougal, who have become a much-loved presence on the estate.
Surrounded by expansive landscapes and quiet walking routes, Muckrach is a place to slow down and reconnect – whether enjoying fireside afternoons, exploring the Cairngorms, or sharing long dinners in good company.
Phil Cowap, Owner of Muckrach Country House, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome guests to Muckrach and to begin this new chapter for the house. Our aim has always been to create a place that feels both special and deeply comfortable – a Highland home where people can truly switch off and enjoy their surroundings.
Muckrach has been carefully refreshed to honour its heritage while offering a more refined and intimate guest experience, staying true to the relaxed spirit that has always defined the house.”
Craig Mills, Chief Executive of The Cairngorms Business Partnership, which includes VisitCairngorms has welcomed the reopening of B&B rooms at Muckrach Country House, near Grantown-on-Spey and said:
