Despite the fact that Terrorvision immortalised the joys of Tequila in their late-90’s pop-rock banger ‘Tequila’, it’s somehow taken another two decades for the Mexican elixir to catch on in the UK. About bloody time.
With National Margarita Day about to drop, we wanted to highlight some of the very best tequilas out there to help all you budding mixologists out there shake up a storm. From premium celeb-owned tequilas to fiery picante variants, and even a brand born and bred in Leeds, these bottles are certain to get your cocktail party rocking.
Lobos 1707 Reposado
Aged in American Oak and finished in Pedro Ximénez wine barrels, this fine Reposado from basketball legend LeBron James Lobos 1707 is pure liquid gold. Blended from Blue Weber agave and grown in the mineral-rich soils of Jalisco, this smooth tequila can be enjoyed on the rocks or mixed into a margarita with Grand Marnier, lime juice and agave nectar.
Lobos 1707 Reposado, RRP £69.99 from Selfridges.
Neurita Tequila Blanco Picante
Made with premium tequila from Jalisco, this fiery blend adds scotch bonnet and green chillies into the mix to create a warming tipple, designed to create the perfect margarita. We highly recommend mixing it up with mango and lime juice to create a fruity cocktail that turns up the heat.
Neurita Tequila Blanco Picante, RRP £31.99 from Neurita.
Cazcabel Tequila Blanco
Crafted in an independent micro-distillery in the Mexican town of Arandas, Cazcabel Blanco is a multi-award winning tequila with notes of earthy agave and citrus. With its crisp finish and hints of smoke and black pepper, it’s a versatile tequila that can be enjoyed neat, as a shot, or in a multitude of cocktails. Try mixing it into a classic margarita for a clean and refreshing take on the iconic tipple.
Cazcabel Tequila Blanco, RRP £26.99 from Amazon.
Hacien Tequila Añejo Cristalino
Since debuting their trio of premium tequilas early in 2022, Leeds-based Hacien has rapidly become a cult brand, appearing in some of the UK’s best cocktail bars. We love all three variants, but their barrel-aged Añejo Cristalino might just be our favourite.
Filtered with charcoal for an intense flavour profile which includes honey, roasted agave, toffee and pink peppercorn, Añejo Cristalino is best enjoyed on the rocks and sipped slowly, or mixed into a divine Watermelon Margarita.
Grab a bottle direct from Hacien for £74.95.
Altos Lime Margarita
Looking for a shortcut to a bar quality margarita? Fear not – Altos has got your back. Their brand new ready-to-serve margarita mix blends their tried and tested 100% agave tequila with triple sec and natural lime, to create a smooth and zesty cocktail that will have your guests fooled.
Altos Margarita, RRP £15.00 from Olmeca Altos.
