Prada Lip Balm vs Avon Anew: Is the £40 Lip Balm Really Worth It?

Prada Lip Balm vs Avon Anew: Luxury vs Value, Compared Honestly

I love a viral beauty product. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching the internet collectively lose its mind over a lipstick, a serum, or — in this case — a lip balm. And in winter especially, lip care isn’t optional; it’s a non-negotiable part of anyone’s makeup kit.

So imagine my delight when I saw that a £10 lip balm from Avon was being talked about in the same breath as Prada’s £40 powerhouse lip balm. Same sleek silver packaging. Same pale blue balm. Same promises of hydration and care. TikTok was going mental.

Naturally, I bought the Avon one first.

But then reality hit: I couldn’t, in good conscience, tell you whether it really rivalled Prada without actually buying the Prada one too. And so, with a slightly quivering hand, I pressed pay on a lip balm I absolutely did not want to spend forty quid on — all in the name of journalism. This is for the good of the people. And you are my people.

So, should you part with an extra thirty pounds for the impeccably packaged Prada? Or is your tenner better spent with Avon? Let’s get into it.

First Impressions: Packaging & Aesthetics

Let’s start with the obvious — both lip balms look good. Like, really good.

The Avon Anew Lip Treatment comes in a sleek, chrome-style tube that feels far more premium than its £10 price tag suggests. It wouldn’t look out of place in a luxury makeup bag, and it certainly doesn’t scream “budget”.

Then there’s Prada. And yes, it’s immaculate. The silver casing, the embossed logo, the textured bullet — it’s luxury beauty doing what it does best. This is the sort of lip balm you pull out in public with intent.

Prada edges it on craftsmanship and detail, but Avon deserves serious credit here — it looks far more expensive than it is.

Texture & Feel: Where the Biggest Difference Lies

This is where, for me, the real difference shows.

The Prada lip balm is noticeably lighter on the lips. It melts in quickly, feels weightless, and gives that barely-there, conditioned feeling that luxury lip products tend to nail. There’s no sense of heaviness — just soft, comfortable lips.

The Avon Anew balm, by comparison, is thicker and more substantial. It stays more “product-present” on the lips for longer, which some people will actually prefer. It feels nourishing, rich, and protective — but it doesn’t disappear in the same way Prada does.

Personally, I prefer the feel of Prada. But — and this is important — not enough that I’d need to pay the extra £30.

Hydration & Wear: How Long Do They Last?

Despite the difference in texture, both balms perform impressively.

The Avon Anew lip balm really surprised me here. Even a light slick lasts for hours, keeping lips comfortable and hydrated without needing constant reapplication. For £10, that’s excellent performance.

The Prada balm also lasts well, but in a different way — it conditions deeply without ever feeling heavy. You forget it’s there, but your lips don’t.

Neither dried my lips out, neither felt waxy, and neither required obsessive top-ups — which, frankly, is the bare minimum a lip balm should manage.

Colour Payoff: A Small but Notable Difference

One thing worth mentioning is colour.

The Prada lip balm gives a very subtle blush-pink tint to the lips — nothing dramatic, but enough to make lips look a little healthier and more polished. It’s understated, but it’s there.

I didn’t notice the same effect with the Avon balm, which stays clear and purely functional in finish. Whether that matters will depend entirely on what you want from your lip balm.

The Big Question: Is Prada Worth £40?

Here’s my honest answer: for me, no — but it’s close.

Prada is lovely. It feels lighter, more refined, and undeniably luxurious. But the difference in feel isn’t dramatic enough to justify paying four times the price when Avon delivers such strong performance for £10.

The Avon Anew balm is lush. It hydrates well, lasts for hours, and represents much better value in my mind. If you want excellent winter lip care without feeling mildly annoyed at your bank statement, Avon is the sensible — and genuinely satisfying — choice.

Final Verdict

If you love luxury beauty, enjoy immaculate packaging, and want a lip balm that feels feather-light with a hint of colour, Prada will make you happy.

But if you want a hardworking, nourishing lip balm that does exactly what it promises and costs a tenner, Avon Anew is absolutely worth your money.

I’m glad I bought both — even if my wallet briefly questioned my judgement.

For the good of the people, obviously.
