The Seafood Bar: Soho’s Go-To Destination for Fresh Seafood

Sunday 11th May 2025 |

The Seafood Bar located on the iconic Dean Street in Soho, opened its doors in 2021 and since then has been a firm favourite by locals and tourists alike.

This family-run restaurant is the only location outside of the Netherlands famous for its long waiting lines, offering guests the freshest seafood, without the high price tag.

The Jay Rayner and Tim Hayward-approved seafood destination continues to impress with its generously portioned signature dishes such as the Combination of the Fruits de Mer ‘Seafood Bar’ & Mixed Grill, a towering seafood delight loaded with oysters, lobster, snow crab, langoustines, mussels, prawns and beautiful cuts of fish, perfect for sharing. Further highlights include: plateaus of oysterslobster soup, calamarisbowls of hot steaming mussels, fish & chips, and much much more. The Seafood Bar lives by the ‘Lekkerbek’ philosophy (what might seem simple on the outside is complicated on the inside), with simple dishes on the menu that allow the fish to speak for itself. All feature the freshest seasonal produce, with shellfish taking the limelight.

The seafood menu is accompanied by an extensive offering of cocktails, including: An Ocean Bloody Mary; Cucumber and Elderflower Martini, Espresso Martini, and Spicy Margarita, ideal for enjoying over lunch or dinner, along with an array of quality wines from across the world which perfectly paired with seafood, including Ruinart Champagne, Austrian Grüner Veltliner, and Provençal rosé wines.

Situated within a Grade II listed Georgian Townhouse with its neon signage and white tilling, The Seafood Bar is full of character. Spacious, light, and airy, the restaurant is contemporary in design keeping in line with its flagship restaurants in Amsterdam.

The Seafood Bar founding family is made up of the father, Fons de Visscher (whose last name translates to the fisherman), and his son and daughters, Pepijn, and Fleur. Fons de Visscher gained experience as a respected fishmonger in Helmond, a small city in the Netherlands.  After 27 years of perfecting his skills and sharing his knowledge with his family, they decided to embark on a new journey by establishing The Seafood Bar.

The first restaurant opened in 2012 in the trendy Oud Zuid neighbourhood in Amsterdam.  Since then, the adoration for The Seafood Bar has continued to grow, and all restaurants in the group reflect the de Visscher family’s dedication to exceptional food and wine, offering delightful, sustainable seafood to their guests.
