With the popularity of Scottish staycations on the rise, Great Rail Journeys is ready to meet demand with its brand-new Edinburgh, Inverness and the Highlands tour
As demand for holidays in Scotland continues to soar, Great Rail Journeys has launched a spectacular new tour guaranteed to wow. The Edinburgh, Inverness and the Highlands tour promises an epic adventure without going abroad, taking passengers across the incredible landscapes of Scotland’s rugged terrain and through the historic cities of Edinburgh and Inverness.
“Scotland is leading the way for UK breaks at the moment” explains Julian Appleyard, Commercial Director of Great Rail Journeys. “We have seen a rise in popularity of rail holidays throughout the UK since the beginning of the year. People are continually looking for a getaway closer to home, in part due to the uncertainty of when Europe might re-open for travel.”
He continues: “Tours including the West Highland line and in particular the Jacobite are proving to be particularly popular. Seats are rapidly booking up, so much so that we’ve just added our new Edinburgh, Inverness and the Highlands tour to meet demand. This tour is a real highlight for those looking not only for journeys on the iconic Jacobite Stream Train, but also for those seeking nature, history and culture.”
Commencing in Edinburgh, the exclusive small group escorted tour includes a guided sightseeing walk discovering the many historic sites of the capital, before venturing to the famous castle in Stirling, once the childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots. Later, passengers will board the Jacobite Steam Train in Fort William to experience the West Highland Line. During the journey, the train climbs into the mountains surrounding Glenfinnan, a small-town famous as the rallying point for Bonnie Prince Charlie’s assault on the British throne.
Crossing the 21-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct is a world-renowned bucket list travel experience, an iconic example of British engineering, immortalized within the Harry Potter films as the famous journey taken by the Hogwarts Express.
Whilst in the Highlands, guests will also visit Eilean Donan Castle before travelling to Aviemore. Here they join the Strathspey Steam Railway for a journey through Cairngorm National Park. Winding alongside the River Spey, guests will look out over scenery of rolling hills blanketed by purple heather, the craggy top of Cairngorm Mountain, thick pine forests and wooded glens.
