How Can I Make the Landing Look Nicer?

Many people spend a lot of time and money trying to decorate the different rooms of their homes to match certain tastes or standards.

While it can be important to dress up your bedrooms or make your kitchen easier to clean, you might also want to think about high traffic areas that people seldom remain in. Your hallways might not be rooms per se, but they can also be rather important for the enjoyment and use of your home.

Utilising artwork can be one way to make the hallways and landing look a lot nicer and feel much more homely. Many landing areas can seem rather dark, so you might want to use fairly light pieces of art. Buying some high quality canvas prints might be an answer here, especially if any empty space is left white. These prints could be of photographs you have taken, your family pets, or even feature some of your favourite pictures of family members. While you might not spend a great deal of time on the landing, except for when moving from room to room, it can still be nice for any design choices to feel deliberate. The end result can be that you feel comfortable and are able to reminisce fondly about time gone by.

Injecting as much light into the space as feasibly possible can be rather important, otherwise, the landing may look incredibly dreary. If you are lucky enough to have a window in the space, you might want to think about keeping blinds open to let in more light. If not, it could be a good idea to think about your decorating choices. Opting for light colours on the walls, doors, and even the bannister can be a great way of creating an illusion of a bigger, brighter space. Hanging mirrors on the wall can also be a wonderful way of illuminating the area by giving your artificial light better surfaces to reflect from.

Generally, the landing may not be overly large. Usually, this acts as a space to manoeuvre once you are upstairs and contains the doors for the other rooms situated within the home. Due to this, you might want to consider some of the decorations you have within the space. While plants or baskets can be both useful and ornate, they could take up some of that precious space. If you do want some form of life, or even useful items, adorning your landing, you might instead want to think about installing some floating shelves. This way, you can still put things where they are wanted or needed, without needing to compromise on the floor space of the area.

While your landing may not be something you often think about, it has an incredibly important role in joining your rooms together and allowing you access to the lower part of your home. When you think about it in this way, it can become apparent that the space may very well benefit from a bit of love and attention, and really help to finish off your home design.
