Get into the Spirit of Halloween with These Fun Office Activities

Tuesday 27th Sep 2022 |

As we approach Fall, that means Halloween is lurking just around the corner, and this can be a fun holiday to celebrate in the workplace.

We have a few ideas to get your office into the Halloween spirit just in time for October. After all, who says kids get to have all of the fun and festivities?

Costume Contests

Who doesn’t like to dress up? Even if it is the most simple of costumes like a pair of cat ears, dedicating a day to playing dress-up can be a lot of fun and allows employees to express themselves. Hosting a costume contest with a first, second, and third place prize might inspire more employees to show out in their best getup for some friendly competition.

Office Trick-or-Treat

What is Halloween without Trick-or-Treating? This is perfect for those who may not want to partake in dressing up to be the candy holders. Set aside 30 minutes or so for employees to go door to door or desk to desk of those handing out candy, and don’t forget to yell, “Trick-or-Treat!” You might also orchestrate a day where employees can bring their children in at the end of the day for a little Trick-or-Treat at the office.

Decorate the Office

Decorating the office is a great way to lift the Halloween spirit and elevate the usual aesthetic of the space with moody lighting, fake spider webs, glowing jack-o-lanterns, and witchy decor. Ask for volunteers who may want to stick around for an hour or so to really bring the office to life. You can also host a decor contest amongst the employees and vote on who has the spookiest desk, cubicle, or office. In the spirit of Halloween, you might consider keeping candy bowls out on your desk or in the breakroom this month.

Celebrate with Customers and Clients

Extend your Halloween spirit to customers and clients by sending them cute little goodie bags or brand promotional products and desk toys such as these available from Gopromotional. You can also use these items as prizes in your office’s costume and desk decoration contests!

Halloween Party

Hosting a Halloween party can be a fun way to get employees together in a fashion beyond just working together. You can create quite the spread of goodies by asking those attending to bring a spooky treat, whether it be pumpkin cookies or ghost-shaped rice crispy treats, and don’t forget a big bowl of red punch! You can play games like the classic bobbing for apples, toilet paper mummy wrap, or host a murder mystery party. And of course, encourage attendees to dress up!

Early Release

If the option is available, consider an early release on the day of Halloween allowing parents to get home to their kids and help them prepare for Trick-or-Treating. This is a sweet gesture that employees will appreciate so that they can get out on the streets with their children before it gets too dark outside.

Celebrating holidays like Halloween in the workplace can promote camaraderie amongst employees and shake up the typical office day routine. Whatever activity you decide to host in your office, be sure to be inclusive and make it a safe space for those who may choose to not participate in the holiday. And of course, take lots of pictures!
