Travel Adapters

Why Travel Adapters are Important

Monday 12th Jun 2023 |

There are different rules for travelling abroad than there are for going a few states over.

People travelling internationally also tend to pack a little heavier, bringing tech like laptops, cell phones, tablets, and more along with them.

Having a travel adapter is critical for ensuring that you can match the voltage standard wherever you are. Click here to get the right travel adapter for your next trip. But first, read on to find out why a travel adapter is a must in the first place.

What is a travel adapter?

When you travel internationally, a few key differences can wind up having a big impact on the quality of your trip. For starters, electrical outlets are quite different overseas than they are here in the United States.

Having a travel plug adapter with you is the best way to stay prepared. It is also the ultimate insurance that you need in order to be able to use all of your favorite electrical devices. The travel adapter makes life a lot simpler when you are in a new place and learning new things all the time.

The adapter works by fitting into the new outlet and converting the voltage accordingly. Most of the adapters you find will have 120v and 240v options, though there are some different options out there. When you plug in your device, the adapter converts and relays the proper current so that your device can work properly.

Missing tech

You might think that not having a travel adapter is really no big deal. Before long, you will see that not being able to use foreign outlets can actually be a pretty big deal. Not having some of your essential devices can make travelling an absolute nightmare.

Given how many things we do and store on our phones these days, losing access to that device can be a major deal. You might get lucky without an adapter and find a way to charge your phone, but why leave that to chance?

We use cell phones and tablets for things like directions and language translators that make travel easier. That’s not even mentioning the fact that you wouldn’t be able to use language translators that are so easily available for use.

Travel Adapter features

That said, not all travel adapters are created equally. There are some cheaper options out there that fit right over the top of the plug on your charger or things like a hair dryer, curling iron/straightener, etc. With that simple little adapter, you can easily use any plug you come across.

The second reason that a travel adapter is a must has to do with voltage. In the United States, the standard is 110/120v with 220-240v being used for larger devices like dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, and more. Remember that it’s only the standard for the U.S. and not necessarily anywhere you might travel internationally.

The real value is in the thing that you can’t see. When you plug that adapter into a foreign outlet, it converts the voltage into the standard 110/120v. Not having an adapter becomes a two-fold problem. For one, you can’t plug anything in, and your devices might die. Secondly, the different voltage levels might fry your device and ruin it.

Having an adapter keeps you covered in both ways. You can easily charge your device without having to worry about frying it in the process. It doesn’t matter how often you travel internationally, have one of those travel adapters with you and you’ll be good to go.
