Tips For Your First Botox Appointment

Friday 18th Oct 2024 |

When considering Botox for the first time, it’s important to think carefully about several factors to achieve the best and longest-lasting results. One of the most crucial decisions is selecting the right Botox practitioner for you.

The experience needs to be safe, comfortable, and align with your overall goals so that you leave feeling confident.

With this in mind and to protect yourself from negative Botox experiences, Dr. Akis Ntonos, co-founder of Aion Aesthetics and partner with Certainly Health, has explained some top tips on how to carefully consider and choose the right Botox practitioner for you.

Expertise and experience

In general, any medical professional who injects Botox should possess an understanding of facial muscle anatomy and physiology to personalize Botox procedures for each individual.

All doctors and many nurses are required to learn facial anatomy, so choose an injector who has more advanced training if you’re feeling nervous about your injections going well.

Additionally, it’s important to do online research or book an in-person consultation to discover how long an individual has been administering Botox. You may find that you’d rather have a RN or NP with many years of experience rather than a doctor who hasn’t been injecting Botox for as long.

Stylistic choices

As the aesthetic industry is constantly evolving and changing, providers need to be constantly updating their techniques and information so that it fits with current trends.

Therefore, when choosing a Botox practitioner, it is important that you research the skill sets and techniques they provide to see if they match up with the stylistic choices you are after. If you don’t have the same goals and style in mind, then you may end up with a result you don’t want.

Think about it like an interview when you go for your initial consultation. Are they matching all of your criteria? If the answer is no, look somewhere else. It’s worth looking at multiple options, so you have someone who offers the exact style and technique you are looking for.

Ratings and reviews

Finding the rating and reading the reviews for Botox practitioners is crucial to discovering what people really think about their work. If possible, try to find third-party website reviews that are most accurately reflective and honest about a Botox provider’s quality and patient experience.

Some Botox providers will have a certain aesthetic eye that can shape how they inject Botox. If it’s possible, look through photo galleries (e.g., before and after pictures) to see whether the individual or the clinic has a particular ‘style’ that’s suited to what you’re looking for.

Price tag

Be cautious of any providers that offer incredibly low prices for Botox, as this could be a sign that they’re using questionable materials or have underqualified staff.

Cheaper Botox is more likely to be offered by NPs or RNs compared to doctors (MDs or DOs). However, independent physicians (who are not dermatologists or plastic surgeons) can occasionally charge less than RNs who work at medspa chains.

Keep in mind that if you initially go for a lower-priced practitioner who may also do lower-quality work, it’s likely that you’ll have to do more work (and pay even more money) to achieve the results you want. Therefore, it’s most effective to start by finding the best possible option within your price range to ensure the biggest bang for your buck.

Personal Rapport

Finally, consider whether you have a good personal rapport with a practitioner. In essence, a good Botox provider will have a collaborative approach with their patient so that they can help them to understand, plan, and achieve their goals together.

If you think a certain practitioner isn’t understanding what you are looking for, doesn’t keep you informed during the process, or isn’t giving you the desired results, consider another practitioner so that your experience is easier, more successful, and has long-lasting results.
