TikTok users are curling their eyelashes upside down for extra length – the experts weigh in
Looking to achieve long, lustrous lashes? The latest viral beauty hack that’s making waves on TikTok is upside down curled lashes. Game changer or lash breaker?
We asked optometrist and co-founder of eye health brand Peep Club, Nicole Alexander-Cross, optometrist for her take on the trend
“Curling your lashes upside down seems pretty harmless as long as you are taking care of your overall lash and eye health. If you’re routinely (every night) taking your eye makeup off with a gentle makeup remover (one that conditions your eye lashes rather than makes them brittle) and making sure that your eyes are kept clear from infection and irritants then careful use of a lash curler, right way up or upside down is a great way to naturally enhance your natural eyelashes.
I would recommend using a super conditioning lash balm or gentle makeup remover, like our Soothing Coconut Eye Balm, to make sure your lashes have the extra nourishment they need to stay healthy. Always be super careful not to tug your lashes at all when using your lash curler – it can cause lashes to fall out and, aesthetics aside, they are, after all, the main line of defence for your eye. Also be super careful to clean your lash curler daily – this can be done with a cotton pad and eye make-up remover, for the same reason that you take off your eye make-up every day – to prevent bacteria and infection.”
Peep Club Soothing Coconut Eye Balm is £20 and available from PEEP CLUB
