Luxury Staycation & Holi-stay. They’re the new buzzwords that none of us asked for. Temporarily gone are the days that we could just hop on a flight to explore a European city over a long weekend, or count down the days to that luxurious beach holiday in the sun.
It isn’t all doom and gloom though; staycation doesn’t have to mean camping in a muddy field for a week, arguing about who’s turn it is to attempt to light a fire during a downpour. Finding an affordable, luxury staycation is relatively easy, and there’s no time like the present to be considering that well-deserved post-lockdown break.
The idyllic Lakeview Manor is tucked away in the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, right in the heart of the East Devon countryside. As a Yorkshireman I’m no stranger to the great outdoors, the Peak District is literally on my doorstep back home but the area around Lakeview Manor is truly stunning. Set in a 45 acre estate, this is a perfect location for anyone keen on cycling, hiking, fishing or indeed water sports – Lakeview Manor is only 30 minutes from the Jurassic Coast, ideal for a spot of surfing for pro’s or newbies alike. I was booked in for a four night luxury staycation, and the immediate tranquillity of the countryside location really set the tone for the rest of my stay.
You’re spoilt for choice in terms of accommodation here. If it’s more of a hotel vibe that you’re looking for, there’s a selection of doubles, twins, family rooms and even a honeymoon suite within the main buildings of Lakeview Manor. For me though, it’s all about the lodges. These individual luxury wooden lodges take a prime spot in the grounds, overlooking one of the many lakes. If that feeling of a little more privacy and exclusivity is what you need, then look no further.
Make no mistake though, you’re not booking a stay in a caravan without wheels. The lodges are constructed and styled to a very high standard, replete with every creature comfort we’ve all come to expect when parting with our hard-earned cash to escape normality for a few nights. Oh and each lodge has a private hot tub, so whether you’ve had a lazy day indoors recharging you batteries or been out tearing up the local trails on your mountain bike, you can spend your evening in the tub relaxing in style.
Each lodge has a fully fitted kitchen but if you fancy a night off cooking I would strongly advise that you to book a table at the bar & restaurant in the main building. Newly renovated and extremely stylish indeed – The Dabbling Duck has got you covered with a wide selection of gastro-pub dishes or if you were feeling particularly decadent, one of their luxury Devon cream teas. Head chef Jerrod takes pride in utilising the very best of locally sourced, seasonal produce and it really shows.
When I wasn’t exploring the local trails on foot or whizzing off to Branscombe beach for an afternoon by the sea, I spent a large proportion of my time at Lakeview Manor tucked up in my lodge with a glass of red and a good book. It’s exactly what I needed. The weather was turning a bit and the days were getting shorter, but I was in my little lakeside bubble and I didn’t really care so much about all that. This wasn’t a life-affirming eco retreat to realign my chakras; but was it wholesome, comforting and restorative? Yes it absolutely was.
If the idea of owning your own holiday home is high up your list of priorities at the moment, a limited selection of two and three bed lodges are currently for sale on the site with more planned for 2021. Better still you’re free to let your lodge during the weeks that you don’t use it, giving you a regular income too. Food for thought…
Head over to their website or give the lovely people at Lakeview manor a call to get booked in. A luxury Staycation can be great – if you know where to look.
