The Good Oak: A New Chapter for a Notting Hill Icon

The Good Oak, formerly known simply as The Oak, has unveiled its much-anticipated transformation, setting a new standard for pubs in Notting Hill. The new chapter is being led by Steven Shamoon, whose vision breathes new life into this iconic building while preserving its charm — recognising the potential of its soaring double-height ceilings, original wood-fired pizza oven, and prime West London location.

The food and beverage programme, overseen by Alex Ghalleb (of Five Graces), has been curated by celebrated chef Alex Craciun, who joins The Good Oak as Executive Chef. Craciun brings an LA-inspired Italian menu that’s lighter and brighter than its New York counterparts, yet deeply rooted in classic comfort. Highlights include innovative bar snacks like Chicken Parm Bites, the signature TGO Hot Dog, and the Scotch Meatball — a playful nod to the traditional Scotch egg. From the Josper grill come dishes such as baby chicken and ribeye steak, while the much-loved pizza dough remains a staple, now made with even finer produce.

Interior design studio Alix Gét has reimagined the space with a “home away from home” ethos. Guests will still recognise the familiar energy of The Oak, now enhanced with plush furnishings, layered décor, and thoughtful details that bring warmth, comfort, and understated style. At the heart of the new layout is a purpose-built central bar, restoring a more traditional pub feel while blending seamlessly with premium design touches. Alix also custom-designed the furniture and elegant banquette seating, handcrafted by Andrew Thornton. The result is a space that feels equally suited to a casual pint or a crafted martini — a place to unwind and feel truly at home.

Upstairs, Above at The Good Oak offers a versatile social hub where community takes centre stage. From cocktails to live music, DJs, and even the occasional backgammon tournament, the space is anchored by a one-of-a-kind piano designed by artist David King Reuben. It’s a lively, eclectic setting designed for connection, creativity, and celebration — where dinner easily flows into cocktails and conversation long into the evening.

For Shamoon, the vision behind The Good Oak is rooted in togetherness.

“I saw nightlife change in London,” he explains. “There’s more emphasis on community, conversation, and comfort. I wanted to create a place where people feel just as comfortable popping in for 15 minutes as they do staying for six hours — a second home where you can connect, eat incredible food, and feel completely at ease.”

Now open and ready to welcome both loyal regulars and new faces, The Good Oak invites guests to discover its revitalised spirit. Whether for an after-work drink, a leisurely weekend brunch, or a late-night gathering, this reimagined Notting Hill gem is set to become a new cornerstone of West London life.
