Are you the type of person that spends every spare minute daydreaming about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s skyhook or Hakeem Olajuwon’s dream shake? Do you listen to the Dunc’d On podcast on your way to work and spend your lunch hour scouring the NBA lines ahead of the latest Gameweek?
If you do, you might be as totally addicted to basketball as us! But, do you have the right set up to watch your favourite game? Whether you’re a total basketball fiend or more of a casual fan, having the right set up will make your viewing experience ten times better.
In this article, we take a look at 5 ways in which you can take your basketball viewing experience to the next level. If you have any tips of your own, be sure to let us know about them in the comments section below.
- Get a Good TV
It might sound like an obvious point, but watching the game on a good TV is something that a lot of sports fans tend to neglect. You might think it’s easier to watch the on-court action on your phone or tablet, but that’s robbing you of the immersive nature of watching the action unfold on a quality TV.
Size is king when it comes to sports, so if you are going to watch on a TV try and make sure it’s as wide a screen as possible. Budget permitting, you want to have a TV with a high refresh rate and good colour accuracy that allows you to see every minute detail of the action.
Watching on a 4K TV will help with that and will also improve the contrast, which will help you to pick out every detail.
- Invest in a Good Sound System
What’s the best bit about going to a game? Is it the hot dog you have beforehand, the conversations you have with other fans, or, is it the atmosphere inside the arena? Most people would say it’s the latter.
Whilst you can’t recreate that feeling at home exactly, you can get pretty darn close if you invest in a decent sound system. If you want a totally immersive experience, get yourself a surround system so that you can hear the stadium buzzing around you.
At the very least, get a sound bar with a subwoofer and you’ll find yourself totally engrossed in the action.
- Buy a Comfortable Chair
Again, it sounds obvious, but to enjoy your viewing experience as much as possible you’re going to need a comfortable chair to sit on. Where this differs from normal TV viewing though is that you’re not going to be sat, slumped in your chair as if you were binge-watching your favourite series.
Instead, you’re going to be up and down, jumping around in your seat, reclining in defeat and leaping out of it in ecstasy. A reclining armchair that allows you to relax and unwind during pauses of play but also keeps you alert and switched on during the on-court action is your best option for NBA viewing.
- Get a Beer & Snack Fridge
There are times when it suits to leave the room and get snacks, like when your team is holding on for a crucial win and you can’t bear to watch the action. Nine times out of ten though, it’s an unwanted distraction to have to leave the room and grab a beer or some snacks.
Fortunately, you can get a beer and snack fridge from Amazon for as little as $50, just be sure to buy one that’s big enough to hold enough beer and food for you and any friends you may have over to watch the game.
- Decorations
Our final tip is one of the most important because it really helps to get you in the mood for the game and make your viewing as immersive as possible and it’s to decorate your room accordingly.
If you’re predominantly going to be watching your favourite NBA team, then get some jerseys up on the wall, hang up some banners and essentially, decorate your room as you would have wanted to when you were a kid, making it a shrine to your favourite team.
