Mobile Phones, and How They’ve Affected Society – The Mobile Phone has essentially changed the way we live today. This is not to say that this is a bad thing, far from it.
The Romans didn’t remain the same way as their predecessors in the bronze age did, and those of the Victorian era certainly did not live like the Romans.
Societies progress, they change, and they transfigure themselves into what the new eras bring into the light. Phones are a byproduct of this and their increased nuances of communication have revolutionised the way in which we live, in which we talk to our friends, family, and acquaintances. Apart from this, one can say that phones have even gone so far as to affect our attitudes and expectations. For example, one can call their friend and tell them where they are, rather than making plans days in advance.
However, I want you to imagine a world in which phones never existed. Where most of the world’s public information couldn’t be accessed via a few taps on a screen, where gamblers couldn’t rely on a mobile casino, where you’d need to visit a cinema to watch a film as opposed to watching it through an app on your phone.
The true question behind this is, could we live without these devices?
Different Ages, Different Effects
When it comes down to it, many people have cited the effects of phones on their social lives, however, many have had different experiences. Through research and studies, it can be seen that many of those born in the early 1980s and earlier have not really seen much of a change to their social lives, and the biggest effect that the dawn of smartphones has brought, is that of convenience and convenience only.
On the other hand, the effect that was had on adolescents in regards to the dawn of phones is much greater as it has basically changed their entire social lives. They portray a different image of themselves on social media and have started to become judged based on that. The entire social hierarchy in regards to teens has become heavily based on how they utilise social media and continues to change that way as the years go on.
A Melting Pot of Convenience
No matter which age group you fall under, one cannot deny that one of the biggest game-changers brought by mobile phones has been the overall convenience in our daily lives. The age of looking around in a waiting room and glossing over random magazines is over. Our phones have brought us countless ways of keeping ourselves entertained as well as making our daily lives easier.
A taxi can be called with a few taps of the phone, rather than one having to yell and whistle for one. A plane ticket can just be kept on one’s phone, rather than one having to go through the hoops of needing to print it. The biggest obstacle one can imagine can at least be mitigated via the overall convenience of a smartphone.
Can We Stand to Live Without Phones?
To circle back to my original statement, could we actually live without phones? Sure, it’s not like phones are fundamental to our living, and that we would go extinct without them, but it would be a huge step back for humanity in all aspects. This is a testament to how far phones have come, as all the luxuries of smartphones would melt away. Socially, this aspect would also be heavily seen in different age groups, as it would essentially cripple the social life of a number of adolescents worldwide.
