April 22nd marks World Earth Day, and this years’ theme is ‘Invest in Our Planet’*. Whether it’s a commitment to reducing plastics, ditching animal-derived ingredients or giving back to the planet, we’ve selected just a handful of Green People’s most planet-friendly beauty saviours that are not only kind to your skin, but kind to the environment.

Meet One Balm – £21.00 (30ml), the ultimate multi-tasking balm and a beauty industry first. This zero-waste botanical balm is presented in a compact wood dust pot that degrades in soil after use, leaving no trace of microplastics behind. The journey to the jar starts in a sustainably grown forest where by-product sawdust is collected. This is then mixed with plant polymers and grass fibre to make a 100% biodegradable pot. This organic multi-purpose balm cocoons skin in a protective layer of nourishing plant actives that calm the skin, making it ideal for everything from shaving and double-cleansing to soothing dry patches.

Green People’s most recently launched range, Nordic Roots, is an organic skin care concept which draws on founder Charlotte’s Danish upbringing and Nordic heritage. Inspired by the beauty of the region’s native flora and fauna, Nordic Roots makes use of a variety of by-product ingredients.  These by-product ingredients are derived from raw, natural materials and are uncompromised by harsh, skin-drying additives such as ethanol and synthetic fragrance. They are naturally nourishing, hydrating and help to slow the skin ageing process while being gentle on the skin.  By-product skincare saves these ingredients from being wasted and makes use of their natural properties, bringing balance to both the skin and the planet. The range includes the Cranberry Micellar Foam – £19.00 (150ml), Hyaluronic Booster Serum – £28.00 (28ml), Apple Complex Moisturiser- £26.00 (50ml) and Marine Facial Oil – £28.00 (28ml).

Sustainable Grass Packaging: The Nordic Roots range uses an innovative new sustainable outer packaging solution that is incorporated with 25% grass, offering a clean carton board that is compostable, biodegradable and 100% recyclable

BEAUTY SWITCHES FOR WORLD EARTH DAY – The ultimate planet-friendly face mask

For a brightening, deep-cleanse that feels good and does good, look to the Purifying Face Mask – £22.00 (50ml). Designed to balance oil production, refine skin texture and absorb pollutants, this certified organic face mask is sustainably produced using by-products that would otherwise go to waste. Green People have found a new life for the coconut shells which are a by-product of other coconut-based products, such as milks and oils. The waste husks are used to create the activated charcoal which serves as the key ingredient in this environmentally-resourceful face mask. Blending Alpine Willow, Bentonite Clay and Oat Lipid with Activated Charcoal, it mattifies the skin, reducing excess oil and resulting spots and breakouts.

BEAUTY SWITCHES FOR WORLD EARTH DAY – Keep your cool with skin friendly natural deodorants

Green People’s certified organic Quinoa & Prebiotics Deodorant – £11.50 (75ml) provides natural protection against odour. Formulated without any trace of aluminium chlorohydrate, this roll-on deodorant contains prebiotics to promote the skins own healthy natural bacterial flora, thereby restricting the odour-forming bacteria. In fact, 93% of testers reported 24 hours of protection. Zinc ricinoleate, a salt from ricinoleic acid works like a sponge, absorbing odour molecules before they can enter the air while potassium alum (a mineral salt from volcanic rock) boasts powerful antibacterial action without blocking pores. Finally, rosemary, aloe vera and shea butter soften, soothe and calm the underarm to prevent irritation, whilst regulating the skin’s acid balance. Skin is left beautifully scented with a fresh citrus aroma. Other formulas include Aloe Vera & Prebiotics Deodorant – £11.50 (75ml), Rosemary & Prebiotics Deodorant – £11.50 (75ml) and for sensitive skins Scent Free Deodorant – £11.50 (75ml)

BEAUTY SWITCHES FOR WORLD EARTH DAY – Marine friendly sunscreens

An estimated 10,000 tonnes of UV filters are produced annually, so it’s little wonder these chemicals can have such a dramatic effect on ocean ecosystems. Thankfully, there is a natural, ocean-friendly alternative that is just as effective as chemical sunscreen. Famed for their certified organic award-winning skin and body products, Green People have been promoting the use of physical sunscreens over chemical for many years. Offering broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection, Green People’s organic suncare range avoids the use of harmful chemicals and is designed to protect even the most sensitive skin, as they are free from parabens, silicones and synthetic fragrance. With ethical viability at the heart of its brand , Green People sun lotions are in renewable sugar cane packaging. Farmed on sustainable land, this carbon-neutral raw material captures CO2 so efficiently that for every 1kg produced, over 3kgs of CO2 is removed from the air. As well as making eco-safe sun lotions Green People has been supporting The Marine Conservation Society since 2011, donating 30p from the sale of every one of their full sized marine-friendly sun lotions to this worthy cause. The Marine Conservation Society is a UK charity which protects our seas, shores and wildlife.  Choose from: Scent Free Facial Sun Cream SPF 30 – £21.00 (50ml), Scent Free Sun Cream SPF 30 – £25.50 (200ml) / £16.50 (100ml), Edelweiss Sun Cream SPF 15 with Natural Tan Accelerator – £24.50 (200ml) / £16.00 (100ml) and Organic Children Scent Free Sun Cream SPF 30 – £21.50 (150ml)

🌿  Plant-based packaging

Green People are one of the first global beauty brands to offer plant-based packaging made from sugar cane. Entirely recyclable, this packaging offers a sustainable alternative to petrochemical-sourced plastic packaging. For every kilo of sugar cane plastic produced, three kilos of CO2 is removed from the atmosphere.

Many of Green People’s squeezy tube products are now packaged in this innovative material that is made from sustainable, renewable sugar cane plastic. To make it easy to know which products are packaged in sugar cane plastic, Green People have added a sugar cane logo to their product descriptions.
