The one that says “I love cocktails because they taste like juice and then suddenly you can’t walk.”
I’m fairly sure that meme was written about the Pornstar Martini.
Sweet, tropical and dangerously easy to drink, it’s a cocktail that has seen a meteoric rise to stardom over the past decade, popping up on menus everywhere from slick cocktail bars to slightly questionable bottomless brunches.
And honestly, I get the appeal.
With its passion fruit tang, vanilla vodka and that little prosecco shooter on the side, the Pornstar Martini is basically grown-up Um Bongo.
And that, my friends, is something I am entirely on board with.
Despite its slightly outrageous name, the drink itself is pure fun — bright, fruity and indulgent enough to feel like a treat. It’s also surprisingly easy to recreate at home once you know the basic formula.
Which means you don’t need a cocktail bar to enjoy one.
You just need a shaker and a healthy respect for how quickly these things disappear.
What Actually Is a Pornstar Martini?
Despite the name, the Pornstar Martini isn’t technically a martini at all.
The cocktail was created in London in the early 2000s by bartender Douglas Ankrah, who wanted to design a drink that was bold, indulgent and memorable.
Safe to say he succeeded.
The drink combines vanilla vodka, passion fruit liqueur and passion fruit purée, shaken with ice and served with half a fresh passion fruit on top and a shot of prosecco on the side.
The prosecco isn’t meant to be poured into the drink. Instead, you sip it alongside the cocktail, which cuts through the sweetness and makes the whole thing feel a little more celebratory.
Ingredients
To make one Pornstar Martini you will need:
• 50ml vanilla vodka
• 25ml passion fruit liqueur (such as Passoã)
• 25ml passion fruit purée
• 15ml fresh lime juice
• 10ml sugar syrup
• Half a fresh passion fruit
• 50ml prosecco (served on the side)
• Ice
Method
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Add the vanilla vodka, passion fruit liqueur, passion fruit purée, lime juice and sugar syrup.
- Shake vigorously for around 15 seconds. A good shake gives the drink its signature silky texture.
- Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
- Float half a passion fruit on top.
- Serve with a small shot of prosecco on the side.

Use passion fruit purée if you can
It gives the drink a richer flavour and smoother texture.
Chill your glass first
A cold glass keeps the cocktail crisp and refreshing.
Shake harder than you think
A proper shake helps create that light foam on top.
Don’t skip the prosecco
It’s part of the whole experience.
