Roch Castle, a 12th century Welsh Norman fortress on the west coast of Pembrokeshire, is hosting a unique stay and dining experience with the three AA rosette team from its sister hotel. Guests can choose to book on either Friday 20 or Saturday 21 January 2023.
Created by Head Chef, Sammy Owen from the Blas restaurant at Twr y Felin, St Davids the fine dining, the six-course set menu is only available to guests staying overnight. As Roch Castle has just six double bedrooms, the maximum number each evening cannot exceed 12 creating a personal, dinner party atmosphere.
Known for his ‘art on a plate’ dishes, Sammy Owen is supported by Development Chef Gareth Evans. Inspired by the season and locality, their food is experimental, a true culinary experience and a feast for the eyes and senses.
The gourmet menu begins with a selection of tasty canapés to whet your appetite followed by scallops. Next is a fish dish with brill and mussels, while venison will be served for mains. Two small but indulgent desserts complete the dinner, popcorn with honey and lemon and chocolate with caramel and salted milk.
Spectacular and dramatic, Roch Castle rests high above the landscape on its volcanic, rocky outcrop at the edge of Roch village in St Davids Peninsula, providing panoramic views over Pembrokeshire and St Brides Bay from the fourth-floor viewing platform.
Originally built in 1195, Roch Castle has over 800 years of history ingrained within its walls. Meticulously restored in 2009, the historic footprint remains intact, from the circular entrance hall with exposed rock, to the strangely shaped room at the very top where the myth of Adam de Rupe lives on.
The five-foot thick walls enclose an aristocratic dining room and intimate chapel, while the enormous bathtubs, high-end luxury beds and glorious Sun Room, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, have preserved the castle for another century of life. Roch Castle also provides a contemporary, natural backdrop for a carefully selected collection of works by just five artists.
Prices for the one-night stay and dining experience are from £395 (£197pp) for two sharing including a full breakfast. To book visit www.rochcastle.com or call 01437 725 566.
As a 12th-century castle, Roch Castle is not suitable for guests with mobility difficulties. The onsite parking facility includes electric car charging points with two Tesla destination chargers and one universal charging unit for guests’ use.
Special dietary requirements cannot be catered for at this dinner but can be met when dining at the Blas Restaurant at Twr y Felin Hotel.
