Its clever formula works to simultaneously soothe, cool, and hydrate upset skin with an intelligent, science-backed formula, rich in Menthol and free from SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate). Expect it to be set in a creamy, easy-to-apply aqueous cream base.
Why is Menthol so special? Used since antiquity for a variety of medicinal purposes, Menthol (Mentha arvensis) is an organic, plant-derived compound that can be obtained from peppermint, corn mint, or other mint oils. How does it work? Rather than lowering the temperature of the skin, its unique cooling effect works by blocking the calcium current along the nerves responsible for detecting temperature. The nerve endings translate a message to the brain that the skin is cooling. The cooling sensation provided by menthol makes it a very useful ingredient in Menthoderm, which effectively helps to alleviate heat from the skin as well as aid in calming the area.
