Heatwave-Proof Your Makeup With These Products

Monday 11th Jul 2022 |

All summer the weather has been hit and miss, with some days giving beautiful sunshine and others no different from a cold autumn afternoon.

Luckily, we have finally been blessed with a heatwave. With temperatures reaching 34C in some parts of the country, keeping the makeup on will prove difficult.

No matter how you chose to set your face, none of these techniques will work if you don’t use products specifically designed to stay put all day.

The four-step guide :

Step 1: It’s All About The Base

Generally, it’s better to wear less makeup in the summer, it feels lighter, and you will often find that beauty trends during spring and summer tend to veer towards a fresher, glowy and bronzed look, instead of dark eyes and lips. To melt-proof your make-up, ensure you prep your skin with a mattifying primer, such as Illamasqua’s Matte Veil.  This primer will not only help to hydrate your skin but it gives a velvet matte finish. Apply to cleansed moisturised skin before applying makeup. Follow with a sheer to light coverage foundation such as the Illamasqua Beyond Foundation to even out the complexion.

Step 2: Use Formulas That Melt Into The Skin

Illamasqua Colour Veil Blusher is a great summer skin product. This formula is based on our bestselling Hydra Veil primer but with added colour, giving skin hydration with a fresh flush of colour and a smooth skin look. Pat onto skin with fingers for a warm blush look. To add subtle definition to your cheekbones, use Illamasqua’s Gel Sculpt. Once both of these products dry, they will melt into the skin and feel lightweight.

Step 3: Smudge-proof Eyes

For a long-wearing eye look, during the hot summer months, it’s best to stick to smudge-proof eye products. Long-lasting mascara is the easy go-to for ensuring your lash look stays in place during the hot, humid months. Eyeko’s NEW Limitless Lengthening Mascara conditions and gives length to your lashes while ensuring it won’t move in humid conditions. You can also upgrade your eyeliner to a waterproof formula, which is especially important if you find your eyes get watery or itchy during the summer season. Waterproof pencil eyeliners like Eyeko’s Sport Waterproof Eyeliner will allow you to get either a smoked-out or defined look, that stays in place all day and night.

Step 4: Set It and Forget It

Once you’ve applied your makeup, lock it in place with a translucent powder like Illamasqua’s Loose Powder 010 and set it with Illamasqua’s  NEW Setting Spray – Matte to ensure your makeup stay put all day.
