Why Egypt Is About to Become 2026’s Must-Visit Destination

Wild Frontiers is a B Corp tour operator that specialises in adventure travel. The team are seeing notable interest for their Dahabiya (traditional houseboat) trips which see travellers sail down the River Nile, exploring famous ancient sites such as Karnak Edfu and the Valley of the Kings.

According to Wild Frontiers, the traditional houseboat trips are becoming increasingly more popular than hotel-based touring in Egypt. The Slow Boat to Aswan trip is the most booked Wild Frontiers Egypt tour.

Clare Tobin, CEO at Wild Frontiers and travel industry expert, explains why it’s now the perfect time to discover Egypt.

The opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum

Clare explains: “The Grand Egyptian Museum recently opened its doors in Cairo, showcasing all the treasures of ancient Egypt. The museum is being described as the world’s largest archaeological museum and has been much anticipated amongst tourists. For the first time since it was discovered, the entire contents of the tomb of Tutankhamun will be displayed.

“The museum is expected to attract an influx of visitors over the next few years, particularly in 2026, helping to boost Egyptian tourism. It’s the perfect opportunity for travellers to learn more about the fascinating history of Egypt before visiting the Giza Pyramids, on the outskirts of Cairo.”

A rare total solar eclipse in 2027

On August 2nd 2027, a rare total solar eclipse will occur and one of the destinations where the phenomenon will be most visible is in Egypt. There has been an 867% increase in Google searches over the past quarter for the term ‘Egypt 2027’, in line with the total solar eclipse.

“It will be the longest total solar eclipse of the century that is visible from land and we’re seeing increased demand for our Egypt tours around this time,” says Clare.

“We recently launched three exclusive ‘eclipse special’ tours and one of these is based in Egypt. Travellers will have the opportunity to observe the event from a houseboat on the waters of the Nile.  The bookings for all departure dates sold out within 24 hours, the fastest we’ve seen any of our tours sell out.”

There are a limited number of places that are still available to book with Wild Frontiers, for the eclipse special Egypt tour.

The 50th anniversary of the death of Agatha Christie

Clare comments: “Next year marks 50 years since the death of Agatha Christie, whose iconic novel ‘Death on the Nile’ perfectly captured Egypt’s enigmatic charm. Her time spent travelling around Egypt inspired some of her most famous work and led to her having a significant literary connection to the country.

“For those familiar with her work, 2026 is the ideal time to retrace her footsteps along the Nile, by visiting Aswan and enjoying a river cruise.”

What time of year to visit  Egypt

The best time to visit Egypt tends to be between October and April, when daytime temperatures are more comfortable. For beachgoers and pool lovers, late spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) are ideal for relaxing, without the heat feeling too overpowering.

Between June and August is extremely hot in Egypt, which can make outdoor activities and sightseeing feel exhausting.
