The story of this iconic small luxury hotel started in 1958 when Charles Morrow purchased the property with his vision to create an exclusive luxury destination. At the time, the hotel was only the second one operating in Ocho Rios. Over the years, it has attracted some seriously illustrious visitors. Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller visited on their honeymoon. Ian Fleming sipped innumerable martinis at the bar, and Noel Coward, Errol Flynn and Katherine Hepburn availed themselves of the luxurious facilities. That’s some seriously glamorous guest list and one that it’s a joy to walk in the footsteps of in this welcoming family-run establishment.

Jamaica Inn has a range of spacious, comfortable rooms, including verandah suites, cottages and beach bungalows – all of which have sea views. There are no televisions, clocks or radios, nothing to distract from the ultimate peaceful getaway. The beach, with its champagne-coloured sand, is peppered with palapas, loungers and hammocks to while away idyllic sunshine hours. Guests can enjoy a refreshing tropical cocktail at the beach bar or hammock side and complimentary beach activities, including kayaking, sunfish sailing, snorkelling and paddle boarding.

Dining is a delight at Jamaica Inn, with creative dishes inspired by the island’s flavours and international influences. Guests can eat in the privacy of their verandah, on the beach or in one of the two stylish restaurants. Menus change daily, and there’s even Lobster Night once a week in season.

Jamaica Inn also prides itself in giving back to the community. The hotel runs the White River Fish Sanctuary Project, which focuses on preserving the marine environment and makes for a better seaside experience all around. The beach is also home to Hawksbill sea turtles. The mother turtles come ashore and dig a nest to lay their eggs, later helping the tiny hatchlings to the sea when they hatch. An extraordinary magical event for guests to witness. And only one of the many reasons why Jamaica Inn is a glorious destination for a dreamy island escape.
